I'm so glad you are both feeling better, Ginny and Ron P.

Even though the cold is hanging on, I'm thankful that the pink-eye is clear enough that I can now read and knit.

Ginny, I guess I missed the part about the pink eye.  I thought you were only suffering from a severe cold.  Even more health vibes!

Story with a short video of the dolphin who asked a diver for help.

Hmmm, this should be Friday, since it is apparently fish (or dolphin) day.

I would be very sad indeed if I could never have spaghetti sauce ever again.

Guess what I'm eating right now.     8)

Had an hour-long chat with Muse Margaret.  First off, she loves the book - it's really the first book in a long time where she's had no comments at all in terms of things she didn't think were working - two tiny little things is all and those were easy.

BUT:  She's very protective of me and she's feeling somewhat uneasy about a certain aspect of the book, one that she understands can't be changed and besides she really likes the plot and the characters and wouldn't want me to.  She wants me to give some time to this one - not to rewrite or anything like that.  Because, being an author, one does use stuff one sees in life and I've done that in this book.  I felt it was a good cautionary tale about young people run amok on places like Instagram.  But because I used stuff that I'm familiar with she's concerned that some people who know me will think I had other motives for doing this story, which I didn't, and she understands that and understands that the details are all fiction, but she's concerned and I have to think about that concern.   She was this way on Album Produced By when I'd editorialize about things that had happened - she wouldn't let me do it because she felt that it would have the opposite effect of what I wanted, i.e. I'd come off poorly rather than the person who I was writing about.

So, I'm going to reread it soon, make my changes and see how I feel.  The bottom line is I may wait until a little later in the year to put it out.  Which is fine - all my books used to come out in September anyway and I'm not in any kind of hurry.  She just feels a little more distance might be good. Again, it's not the book itself or the way it works - that she's very happy with.  And if I hadn't told her certain things in advance of her reading it, she would not be feeling this way at all.  So, pondering is what I'll be doing.

What about having one more person read it who knows you? To tell you if they feel the same way.

After another night of barely any sleep I'm exhausted beyond my endurance.  I am only functioning at all due to a short nap.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news and I know lots of people here won't know him but I just spoke to Anthony and Paul Haber, who did

What If

with Bruce in 2004 passed away in December of 2012. Anthony knew him (but hadn't seen him in years) because they took the same dance class. A mutual friend called Anthony this morning to tell him the news.

We don't have any other information but here is an obituary from the Hartford Courant Newspaper (the funeral and burial were in CT).

Paul Haber Obit

I got to meet Paul at What If? and got to know each and we met again at a performance of What If. He was a kind, generous and talent person.

He has a lot of work on you tube to see what I mean.

RIP Paul

I know since I suffer from it too often.  For me to complain means it is exceptionally bad.

Since it seems to be video day......  You have probably seen this one before but the dance routines are worth, IMHO, watching again.

One week ago today, I learned what had been at the core of my malaise during the holidays; what had prevented me from enjoying my final week off in the manner I wished to enjoy it; and what had plagued me during my first week back at work during which time I felt my energy drain from me daily and, despite earlier bedtimes, was never fully restored.

What was this at the core of my malaise?   Pneumonia.  Walking pneumonia.  Viral pneumonia.

I did not work last week at all except for half a day on Monday, Jan.14.  On Wednesday, I recognized that I wasn't going to get any better taking OTC drugs and sleeping.  It took me several hours just to clean up and get dressed.  Once I checked in at the doctor's office, I was taken into urgent care and the tests began...blood, urine, X-rays.  My temp was 102-plus at that time.

My white blood count was off the charts, so they knew there was infection.  Then came the x-rays and the pronouncement of what they showed.

I was first treated to an IV of antibiotics.  About half an hour into that, I began feeling a bit more upbeat and better.  Maybe it's the anti-biotics, of course, but it may also have been the joy of knowing that what was wrong was going to be put right.

Following the antibiotic, I was given a saline drip....and that cheered me up/perked me up enormously.  My fever broke with the Tylenol they had given me earlier, and my final temp was 97.6.

I was given two antibiotic drugs to take home (azithromycin and amoxicillin), plus codeine-laced cough syrup.

I'm done with the azithromycin, but will be taking the other (twice a day) for the next week.   The amoxicillin is great, but it also gives me sweats.

I'm back at work (second day), am taking my time, and am taking the best care of myself I can.

I enjoy many operas.....especially Puccini - Madame Butterfly......

My favorite contemporary opera is DOCTOR ATOMIC by John Adams which is available on Blu-Ray and which I cannot recommend highly enough.

I really like that and bought the DVD.  I also love Philip Glass' "Satyagraha," which was shown on PBS last year, but is not available for purchase.  My sister's boyfriend was able to make a Blu-ray of that broadcast for me. :D

I never want to use snorkeling gear again.  All I do is get water in my mask & down the snorkel.

Saturday I put my prescription goggle on I use at the pool and went into the beautiful clear ocean of Cozumel.  Sure I had to keep coming up for air but it was great.  I had a nice long swim and saw some cool fish.

Knowing me Keith reminded me not to go out past the rope line.  Suddenly I noticed a boat going past me, looked up & then back to the beach and went oops.  Apparently Keith wasn't the only one watching me swim way out, other's were as well.  I even heard about it from people who weren't on the beach  ;D  I really didn't go out that far, just that it was beyond the swim area.

I was totally confused to how I could have swam over the rope without noticing.   What I didn't realize was the area I was swimming in had an outlet for jet skis & boats so the rope didn't cross where I was.  During Sunday's swim two boats came into the swim area making me a little nervous.

I've discussed the book with two close friends and I've got a clearer picture of things now - really helps to talk it out.  I'm going to make some small character tweaks that probably won't even involve a total of ten or fifteen lines and that will be it.  I will decide on how long to sit on it - it wouldn't be out before May anyway, and I might just wait until September, but I feel I've discussed the little issue this book might have in terms of the one character and I feel that with the tweaks I'm going to be fine with it.  I think the book tells an interesting story and there's a good lesson in there and that's very important to me.

Just had another long chat with Muse Margaret and explained my other conversations, my intentions when writing the book, and what I'm going to tweak and she's now totally fine with everything.  Again, she loves everything about the book - she was just concerned that what would really be only about five people could construe that one one issue of the book, which was inspired by real life, might be too specific, but with the few tweaks it won't be.  Feeling much better now, because both Muse Margaret and I feel this is the best of the Hofstetters - whether others will or not remains to be seen, but for me this book is really funny and really interesting, and its plot is timely.
