Voldemort is basically a middle school girl: he has a locket, a diary, a tiara, a ring, and is completely obsessed with a teenage boy.

We have returned from the vampire's blood lab, Subway for lunch, and the grocery store.  I am exhausted.

Re:  "Downton Abbey" -- the upcoming 4th season:

I wonder if John and Anna Bates might leave Downton, emigrate to California and open a motel...the Bates Motel...and Anna could have a baby boy they could name Norman.

LOL, DR Ron - I think that's a good example of "jumping the shark."

LOL, DR Ron - I think that's a good example of "jumping the shark."

It could be a spin-off...there actually is a new show called Bates Motel about Norman when he was a teenager.

After several weeks of bitterly cold weather it's turned mild at last. I suspect it won't last because February tends to be the coldest month.

There's been a panic here because beefburgers sold in several of the major supermarkets were tested and found to contains portions of horse meat. One burger was found to be nearly 30% horse. This led to the shelves being cleared of all burgers. Apparently the illegal meat processed by a major supplier, came from Poland.

Further on the TOD:

As I'm presently in the position of having to replace my laptop, I'm "this" close to making a jump from PC to MacBook that I've been seriously considering for some time.  It's a big step, starting with price and going from there.  And everyone's needs are different, so who can say how much I'll like it.  But I'm ready for a change of scenery.  And I know I can run Windows if I really want or need certain programs.

I really like my Macbook, DR ChasSmith. I have only used it a couple of times since Dublin, since I have iMacs here and at Toyland, but it will accompany me again this summer!

Thank you all for your nice comments.

My father was absolutely beaming when I talked to him on FaceTime. This has perked him up and gives a goal to wait for when he is presented with it next month.

My mother was so happy that when she called me at work to tell me I wasn't there but she made sure my fellow co-workers knew!! :-)

Thanks again to all

:D :D :D   Will you be able to attend the official presentation?

How long do you get the books for? Cause if you get them for three weeks and read a book every two days then you should not have to rush.

True, I should be able to read them all in the 3 weeks allotted.

Now you have me counting my books on Goodreads I noticed you have read more books than I have this year.  Since you reached your goal of 100 books last years why didn't you increase it this year?

Topic of the Day:

This is what I posted on July 17, 2008, 12:32:19 AM:

Quote
...the first computer that I owned was the Texas Instruments 99/4A.  It had a whopping total 16K of memory!

and then:

Quote
It used a tape recorder for memory storage.  To program music, you had to enter three numbers for every note...one for the pitch, one for the volume and one for the duration, and you could only program up to three different notes at any one time.  If you wanted one note to hold while another changed, you had to actually repeat that holding note.  I once programmed "Birdland," recorded by The Manhattan Transfer, but was only able to program half the song at a time (and up to three notes at a time) because there wasn't enough memory for the whole song!  I loved that computer, but my parents sold it at a garage sale when I was away at college. :P

:)

The next few computers that I owned were hand-me-downs from my sister's boyfriend.  He worked on computers where he worked and knew how to build them.  The one I have now and have had for a few years, I bought myself from Dell.  Vista had been released but I didn't want to take the plunge, so I paid for the XP downgrade.  I was sent the Vista upgrade disc, if I ever want to go to that, but at this point, I doubt that I need to upgrade this computer to anything else.  I won't upgrade until the next time that I need to buy a whole new computer.

The guy we've contracted to clear our driveway when it snows just stopped by to pre-treat it with salt.  Does he know something we don't?

Interesting.  I don't believe I have ever had that done.

Greetings from Toyland!  I stopped at the TD Bank to use their Penny Arcade to get rid of a lot if change, and as it seems to be usual, the machine was being cleaned and serviced. I had to put up with a bitchy teller who responded quite nastily to my comment that it was always being serviced between 9:30 and 10:00am. Since the damned bank opens at 7:30am, I do not understand why the stupid machine cannot be serviced first thing in the morning or just before they close at 8:00pm. She wasn't amused and neither was I.

Perhaps they know I hate their stupid Regis (can I smirk more in the next take) Philbin commercials?

I don't understand either why more banks don't have these wonderful machines.

I called around once and the banks that have them, including ours, charged for the service.

You know, last night I was looking at what our GUESTS were looking at - you know, old threads.  On my 60th birthday day would you like to know how many pages of posts there were?  Would you?  Sixty-five.  Today, three.  So, are our glory days behind us or what?  And lest you think it's because we had so many posts from people no longer here, there weren't more than a total of twenty from those types.

Congrats on the review DR ELMORE!

I want my friends on HHW to be the first to know....I am in the $$$$$.  I just received the following message at my Yahoo email address:

An Iraqi made a fixed deposit of €24,500.000.00 in a bank  where I am a director.
He died with his entire family in the war leaving behind no next of kin.

If you choose to stand as my deceased client's next of kin, mail me at the address below:

Yours Truly,
Daniel Llopis.

In separate news....I can also get ready for Better Sex in Just 20 Days!

This is fantastic news, DR JRand62! Are you more excited about the $$ or the better sex?

;D

My feeling was that it might create melting that would then refreeze, but I think it would depend on conditions, amount of snowfall, etc.  Let us know how it works!

If you managed to sprinkle salt on the tail of a bird while you're salting your driveway, would the bird freeze because it couldn't fly away?

Today is only Thursday, but it should be Friday.

That's what my bones tell me.

That's what my sinews tell me.

That's what my mind tells me.

But tomorrow is Friday.

Shucky darn!

At least tomorrow there is something to look forward to here.

Tomorrow we will have a pre-Super Bowl "Tail Gate" luncheon with pizza, salad, sodas and dessert (Paula Dean banana puddin').
