Sunday afternoon greetings! Fr. Richard and I are back from an uneventful trip to Lima and now I can tell you why I've been so quiet the past couple of days:

Yesterday our dear niece/goddaughter Lauren became engaged to a wonderful young man named Jimmy!

Her mom had called me on Friday to tell me he was planning to propose on Saturday and then they were going to dinner at Lebanon's Golden Lamb, where they went on their first date. Jimmy wanted it to be a family thing, so his mom arranged for one of the private dining rooms and there were 9 of us there to greet them. Mary Linda went with us, but Paramedic Rob was only halfway through his 24-hour workday. It was a fun, festive evening.

I've seen it. I watched it around 5 years ago. Depardieu is Dantes. His son plays the young Dantes, as I recall. It's quite good, but it does cut the lesbians and there are a few other changes. I love the Robin Buss uncut translation, and I'm going to read it again after ANNA KARENINA.

But yesterday was great. On the spur of the moment a friend ask if I wanted to go up to Orlando for the day. I said yes if he would drive and he did.

Disney has started to produced there "snow globe" sculptures again. After 9/11 they discontinued them because people couldn't take them on the planes with them as there was too much liquid in the globes. I heard that the regulation has been relaxed and I found a beautiful one by fluke. I went to the cashier and I saw a table of them. I saw a box that did not have a display copy. It was the last one so I took it up to the cash and had them open it. I immediately saw how wonderful it was and took. So did another customer who also wanted one. So they had to call around to locate another one.

I told I would buy it and then sell it to the woman for double the price! :-)

If it is fairly recent, Depardieu would be playing the castle.

LOL. It's from the late 1990s, and he's Dantes. It's fun. I watched the first of the four episodes.

They were in the version I read, which I guess is Robin Buss'.

I found watching THE MASTER painful, boring & cheered when it was over. It wasn't because I found the star's acting lacking, more because he did such a good job of creating an unlikable, annoying, unsympathetic character. I do not like to watch or read a story when I don't have some compassion or interest in the people.

Keith found it an interesting character study.

Yes, it is loosely based it on both but the main character in the movie is the mentally unbalanced man portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix.
