Still no Ontrac - they just get worse and worse and I think it may be time for another phone call about the person who has just arbitrarily decided to make the mail place his or her final stop.  Last time I called it helped and a few times a week they would get there by noon, but it's gone back to the way it was pre-call.

Of the really popular singers, there's some of Katy Perry's songs, and of course the person who seems to have made a new career of winning every award in sight whether she should or not - Adele.  One of the Times writers said he's sure there's a law in california that when Adele is nominated, it's against the law for Adele not to win.  :)

Adele catapulted to a phenomenon (despite being really good, IMHO, which normally shouldn't be a barrier) by being an ordinary-looking "be yourself' kind of gal.  Did I ever post this Youtube tribute to the Vogue spread, where Vogue airbrushed even normal-gal Adele into looking like a super-model, pretty much defeating the whole point of why people loved Adele so much?

"Rolling in the Deep" spoof about Adele's Vogue magazine spread

That was pretty funny, Fred. :D

Thank you, George!

DR Pogue -

It looks like London at least has not made theatergoers victims of the insane premium pricing $400 ticket structure - yet.

I found it interesting that Vanessa Redgrave starred in an off-Broadway play with Jesse Eisenberg in the Village, and la good number of articles (such as Playbill here) used Jesse Eisenberg's photo

I just had a crazy thought.  One of the cardinals in the conclave is Daniel DiNardo who was the bishop in Sioux City.  Although I'm not Catholic I did meet him once or twice.  So that means if (and this is along shot) he was voted Pope, I will have met the Pope.  Now that's a small world

FJL, tix are still fairly reasonable in London, but they've steadily risen and I blame the blockbuster musicals for it.  And some theatres are also now selling some seats with the best views in the stalls and circle as "premimun seats, which usually cost another ten-fifteen pounds more than a regular seat in roughly the same area.  So it is sadly slowly adopting all of Broadway's bad habits.

Well, all the deli talk finally got to me, so Richard and I just had dinner at Izzy's.  We each had a bowl of beef barley soup, half a Reuben and a potato pancake (I just ate the edges).  Yum!

Had a very irritating call with Ontrac - they just profess not to care that our driver has arbitrarily made us his last commercial stop of his day (package STILL isn't there, even though another amazon package IS there and was delivered via UPS by one).  I told his whiny woman that seven months ago I obviously had made a difference, since the yahoo who is our delivery person began switching it up and getting there earlier occasionally - I should probably have just gone directly to a supervisor as I'd done last time, and I may call back tomorrow and do exactly that.  She suggested complaining to amazon since they've given Ontrac from eight to five to deliver to commercial addresses.  I told her my complaint was with Ontrac because they've obviously chosen the five rather than the eight.  I then did call Amazon and got a nice fellow on the phone and told him I was kind of at the end of my rope.  He's going to file a complaint about this with his superiors - he said he didn't know how much control they'd have over Ontrac and I explained to him with the kind of money they're throwing at Ontrac they have nothing BUT control.  But I said, just ship all my stuff by UPS and we'll never have a problem - don't know that that can happen, but he's noted that wish in my account profile.

Heard two auditions today for Hofstetter.  Fascinating.  Both were good, neither quite captured the rhythm of the writing and dialogue and neither quite captured Adriana herself, which, for me, is the key to doing these.  I'll assume I'll know when it's right when I've heard the right one.  Then I began to think what if I just did it - I've certainly done readings that way and it worked, but with these books I just think young readers will respond more if it's a young-sounding Adriana-like voice.  When I get closer to finding what I like, then maybe what I'll do is send the final candidates me reading four pages and narration and dialogue with the right rhythms, and have them try to make that their own - I just think it will help them understand the way I write and how it sounds best.  This is tricky and really difficult work.

I think that you should definitely have a girl do the voice and not you.  That is a good idea though to record yourself how you want it to sound.

Interesting. i would definitely try calling a supervisor. You'll probably have better luck. Although if they are allowed to deliver till 5pm then maybe they won't care.

Package has not arrived.  I'll wait patiently for ten more minutes.  At 5:01 Ontrac will get the call from me they'd wish they'd never gotten, since they themselves told me amazon has given them between eight and five to deliver their packages.  In nine minutes they will have not done that.  Then I can get tough.

Ontrac arrived literally thirty seconds before the five o'clock cut-off time.  I'm waiting for a supervisor now.

Did a lengthy workout before leaving work today. May have to take a short nap before dinner.

I'm relieved I don't have to go to the pharmacy for my friend.  Her neighbor picked up the script we couldn't get earlier.

Got a supervisor who, unlike the whiny woman, was helpful and who assured me that by Thursday we'd be seeing a change in delivery time - he said he saw my previous complaint and that the facility had talked to the driver back then, and he could also see the history of package delivery in the last three to five weeks and he understood the driver had gone back to his old ways of making us last.  He said that Ontrac is not going to put up with such late delivery as a matter of course, and I believe him since the last supervisor was able to do something about it.

WEST POINT just gets better and better. Tonight's episode that I watched had Don Eitner, who appeared in the first episode, plus Race Gentry and my dear friend Jackie Loughery! It was swell!

Just finished talking to my brother and sister-in-law. It's his 65th birthday today.  Hard to believe! (I'm the youngest, by the way).

It was insane at work today.  Edith called in sick. She really is sick with a cold - which I think I'm catching...bleh!  Anyway, made it through the day and I really hope she's there tomorrow. I was able to do 1/2 of the appointments today but had to reschedule the other 1/2 because I needed an interpreter.  I speak Spanish, but not well enough for a detailed legal conversation. Tomorrow is full of appointments too.  Not sure what I'll do if she can't come in.   Guess I could call language line to interpret

I have to admit the craziness was sort of fun today. It's been years since I didn't have a secretary and it's the first time we've had a really busy day scheduled when she's been gone.  I was a bit proud I managed to get through the day lol
