Work-from-home day and I'm taking a break.

In a way, I wish I were in the office. The boss two levels up turned in his resignation yesterday to go work for an unnamed company in San Diego. It would be interesting to see the office reaction. I'm sure there's a pall of uncertainty cast over the office.

It's great now, up in the low 80s, but it's supposed to get down into the 40s tonight or tomorrow morning.

So, was Bette Midler robbed? The NYT wrote a love poem to her, called the best thing on the boards these days and no Tony nomination.

Haven 't seen it and I most likely won't. I would like to see it but the cheapest ticket is $80 f*****g dollars (for the last rows of the balcony at the Booth Theatre) and the cheapest Playbill discount is $100. I will not buy into this bullshit. As much as I would like to see the show I refuse to pay those prices.

ChasSmith, here's the logo for the new British production of Barnum, which is to star an old acquaintance of DR Elmore's, Christopher Fitzgerald:

That's what you have to pay here for the upcoming Barry Manilow concert.  Couldn't believe it as I charged it to my credit card

For me, if I could have any collectible right now I'd want a Norman Rockwell Saturday Evening Post cover painting.

Back from a three-mile jog and a patty melt.  Just sent in packaging for our next release and hopefully it won't take the usual three weeks for approval.

I am home from Toyland. I waited on an email that never arrived, and I'll deal with it tomorrow.

I have to go out tonight to THE SONG OF NORWAY at Carnegie Hall. I hope it's not dreadful.
Irra Petina won't be there, will she?

I wish!

My favorite overrated actress is up for a Tony for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical. I want you all to keep tabs on how much PR her publicist starts churning out to win her that Award.

I'm rooting for Andrea Martin!

Thanks, Fred.

It looks that way. One more antibiotic pill today and then he's done. He's sleeping through the night without congestion and soon he'll be back to class. It's been a long two weeks.

Great news!

Charley, a new retiree-greeter at Wal-Mart, just couldn't seem to get to work on time.

Every day he was 5, 10, 15 minutes late. But he was a good worker, really tidy, clean-shaven, sharp-minded and a real credit to the company and obviously  demonstrating their "Older Person Friendly" policies.

One day the boss called him in to the office for a talk.

"Charley, I have to tell you, I like your work ethic, you do a bang-up job when you finally get here; but your being late so often is quite bothersome."

"Yes, I know boss, and I am working on it."

"Well good, you are a team player. That's what I like to hear."

"Yes sir, I understand your concern and I'll try  harder."

Seeming puzzled, the manager went on to comment, "It's odd though your coming in late. I know you're retired from the Armed Forces. What did they say to you there if you showed up in the morning so late and so often?"

The old man looked down at the floor, then smiled.

He chuckled quietly, then said with a grin, "They usually saluted and said, 'Good morning, Admiral, can I get your coffee, sir?'"

Cute.

LOL very funny DR DRUXY.

Does Carole Lombard have any relatives still around in Fort Wayne?  Do you expect them to attend your play?  That would be fantastic!!!

I am not aware of any relatives there.

I do plan to visit her childhood home when I'm there and, if all goes well, take a photo that will appear in my forthcoming 2nd memoir.

Bought a new suit today. I'd been thinking of getting something light for the summer (assuming there will be a summer) and without specifically intended to buy one today happened to come across one I liked. Having got into a buying mood I then bought some trousers - or pants as I believe they're called on your side of the Atlantic.

I don't know if anyone says trousers anymore.  I wish they did.

these things is that those kids sit there and shut up and pay attention and always seem to love it.

What a good feeling it might be to watch those kids.

I just paid my property taxes on-online.  They were less than last year's...since I'm not planning on moving EVER, I don't care. :)

For me, if I could have any collectible right now I'd want a Norman Rockwell Saturday Evening Post cover painting.

Several years ago my dad was visiting here and we went for a long, aimless drive up north into Massachusetts (I think it was fall and we were taking in the amazing colors), and when we saw signs for the Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, we decided what the heck.  It's totally worth it, especially to see some of those original paintings.  Many are quite large, and their impact, right there in the flesh, is astounding.

Seriously!!  And thanks, DR Jane!!!

The very last thing I need this week is a cold.  Well, I guess we say that whenever we feel one coming on, but...but...this time I really mean it!   :)

Trousers!

I guess I grew up hearing it all the time.  Don't know if I ever have occasion to say it myself these days, but it's a good word.  A fine word.

It might still have more common use in clothing stores than anywhere, I'm thinking.  But I don't know.

I saw the touring Norman Rockwell show in Atlanta about eight years ago. It was great. Many of the works from Stockbridge and well curated and laid out, so you could see his progression.

I'm impressed how easily this guy took the gun away from his mugger.  Read the full story too.
