Finished with my viewing and listening to a new Japanese import CD of one of the albums that made me love show music in jazz - Warner Bros. record Flower Drum Song performed by the Morris Nanton Trio - never thought it would see the light of a CD release and certainly it won't here. But here's the really weird and irritating thing: The first track is You Are Beautiful - imagine my surprise to hear an LP transfer (clearly, and not a good one) AND in mono. I was really annoyed, but then track two began and it was obviously the master tapes in glorious stereo sounding great. So, if that first track's tape version is damaged, why on earth wouldn't they do an LP transfer that a) was good (there Warners pressings on LP were superb) and b) was stereo, for heaven's sake. Even I have a copy of the stereo LP sitting here like so much fish.
