Last night, we had rehearsal for "Hollywood Who Done It?"  We worked most of act two and got through it fairly well.  I really need to buckle down, Winsocki and really work on memorizing my lines.  I have a couple of scenes where the dialogue goes back and forth very quickly, so those scenes will need more work.  But the show is coming together quite nicely and I think that it'll be very well received.  It's a fun show and rehearsals have been fun, too.  I can't wait to see how the audiences respond. :D

DerB was last here in April of 2012. I'm not sure how 2007 came about but it's been a year and a half, not 6 years

DerB's posts from April 2012

It says he was

Last Active: May 23, 2012, 12:10:45 PM

so he may have been logged in looking around but nothing since then.

Slapshot was gone for a long time, but he returned.

Good morning, all! I slept rather well last night, given that I  was on drugs.  I was given a Percodin around 8:30, and I was in bed by 10:00. Around 1:30am I woke, used the bathroom and took and ibuprofen and a flexerill, and slept until i this morning. I slept in till a little past 8, and I will shortly head for the pharmacy to fill these two prescriptions before the Big Meeting at 11. As soon as it's over, I'll head for home.

TOD:

I was actually asked this question once by the local paper here.  Here were my top-ten choices then; don't know that I'd change any of them now:

THOSE LIPS, THOSE EYES...The story of my life. About the seduction of theatre.  I'm both the starry-eyed kid and the jaded pro.

BARBAROSA...Western legend transcends to western myth.

EXCALIBUR...the best version of King Arthur's dying fall...

FLESH+BLOOD...quirky epic about the Middle Ages slamming into the Renaissance.

BODY HEAT...Kasdan brings back film noir...and Kathleen Turner!

MY FAVOURITE YEAR...Peter O'Toole gives another great performance and misses another Oscar.

BULL DURHAM...no better baseball movie.

BLOOD SIMPLE...just edges out RAISING ARIZONA, but the Cohen Bros. must be on the list.

CRIMES OF PASSION...Enfant Terrible Ken Russell at his loopiest and most outrageous.

THE FLY...a purely selfish choice that I had a little something to do with.

A few near-misses...THE DEAD, MATEWAN, THE DRESSER, BLUE VELVET, AIRPLANE

Best Caan film:

THE GODFATHER

It is!  It was written by your close and personal friend (and mine), Christian Doyle!  He said that he had actually written it for a children's theater group, but it's certainly not written in a way that it's only for children.

I had to carry some things home from the office and the additional weight made the walk painful, so I got a taxi. I'm home but much poorer.

My doctor asked me to come in to see her, and I will be thereat 9:00 tomorrow morning. Now that I'm home, I will take my meds in a bit and most likely crash.

The meeting was between Rob Berman, John Kilgore who has a sound studio in the Film Center building, Judy Sherman, and myself.  We went through the logistics of what will be recorded in Dublin or overdubbed here. It was a productive meeting, and we are now set to go. I hope I can!

Those '80s synth scores are something else.  Sometimes they work, other times they're just hilarious.  As it happens, unlike with films from many other periods, I don't ever seem to retain the sound of those movies, so they're always a surprise to me when I go back to them.

Speaking of synth scores (sort of).  I watched a very strange PBS Pledge Break Concert last night.  It was Sarah Brightman's DREAMCHASER.  Apparently at the end of this year's concerrt tour, Ms. Brightman will travel to Russia where she will train for six months and then will be launched on a rocket to the International Space Station.  I guess this a life-long dream of hers.

Anyway, the concert was very unusual.  I am not a huge fan of her singing, but I liked her in POTO.  The concert was filled with a number of unusual songs with strange lighting effects and vaious gowns and headresses worn by Ms Brightman.  My favorite number that she sang was "Nessun Dorma."  Of course, she also sang "Phantom of the Opera".  The rest were ........unusual.

Thursday morning greetings!  Whew, I'm glad to have a couple of "down" days after several very busy ones.  I spent about 5 hours at Rob and Mary Linda's new apartment yesterday, getting the kitchen cupboards lined and filled.  They were thrilled to see their things in their new home and to see some empty boxes that they can fill again.  When I got home about 7, I just ate dinner and vegged in front of the TV until Richard called from La Porte, Indiana.  He's there for a couple days of clergy meetings.

My most recent time to do the back thing was just a few months ago.  You never know how quickly or slowly it will abate.

I believe I have had a few back problems myself.

"32"?   "32"?

Well, in my Navy days (immediately after boot camp in September 1972) I had a 32-inch waist.

For the next couple of decades I "maintained" at "34" to "36".

But...since I quite smoking in October 2000, my acquaintance with the "30s" has gone astray.

On a good day it's a "Howdy, 42!"

Same problem, same result.

The notes were size 32.  I am size 38 now....where MR BK started....but I am down from size 40 - which is ridiculous for me!!

Tonight is opening night.....there is a sequence in the show where my phone rings and my answering machine picks up....then the person hangs up.  The director has decided to have my "mother" leave me a message.....  Okay.....I have told the only other person onstage with me at the time - Best Man George - to expect me to go into a rant about it......  If the director doesn't like the rant....she can take the message out.....

Oh and tonight is Opening Night....  I hope the audience is on board with us from the beginning!  Fingers crossed.  Pray for you know who....

Break a leg tonight, to Jack and company!

Greetings, all!

it's been a bit mad with these new rehearsals, so I may only pop in every other day. The recent wrinkle is about the musical director, who is actually very good, but he is trying to applique emotional colors into my songs on the third day, before we even stage the scenes. And we do have 4 weeks of rehearsal. I think his need to go for instant results comes from working with too many non-pros and students. So far, as lovely as the people are, this project is trying, at best.

But enough about that...

Very much, DR TCB.  I'm drinking less coffee, because each cup requires some forethought and effort.

Here's what I've been doing this afternoon:

This is my first-ever IKEA purchase and I put it together all by myself!

I'm impressed DR Ginny. What is it?  ;D

It's my at-home answer to a library book truck.  When doing household projects like cleaning out closets, I've often thought, "I need a book truck!"

Back from lunch.

Today, my boss and I decided to take in the Oakland Museum of Modern Art.  It has the Blue Oak Cafe, which can be very good.

Today's special was (or still is) curried chicken over rice.  It was delish.  Very delish.

Yet...lunch was a mixed bag from the moment we entered until we left.

The reason:

To top off matters, some of you may recognize that tune as being "The Teddy Bears' Picnic"...one of my most-dreaded songs.

Still, she had pluck and a virtuousic determination (if there is such a thing).  I tipped her, but suggested she might consider less polkaish music to soothe the digestion.   There were many blue-haired docents eating lunch there.  While they enjoyed the music, they were chewing in time with the music, and I'm certain a few dentures slipped.

Congrats on the weight loss, bk. I hope to catch up with you, if not 32s, then 34s.

I could do with getting my waist down but if that means having to go jogging...forget it  ;D

I agree with you, Doug R. I much prefer dancing.
