It's a stupid commercial they're shooting - it's the same production company every week - like there's only one house in one neighborhood at which to shoot.  I HATE these people.  And yes, they've parked where they shouldn't, once again.  Since I'm gone in a half hour I don't care.

Now just waiting for a call from my sister, who has arrived in the south Dayton 'burbs, about dinner plans for tonight.

TOD:

Jonathan Tunick: Promises, Promises; Follies, Company, Pacific Overtures

Michael Starobin: Sunday in the Park with George

Larry Moore: Jubilee

Hershey Kay: On the Twentieth Century

Don Walker: Most Happy Fella

Probably too many more to mention for original orchestrations. Can't think of too many re-orchestrated pieces I like, usually because the size of the orchestra has been reduced, rather than enhanced.

I DITTO every one of these selections, but I'd like to add Larry's orchestration for "The Brain From Planet X."  It's just delightful!

I'll also add Rupert Holmes' orchestrations for the original Broadway production of "The Mystery of Edwin Drood."

Good morning, all!  I have very little to report.

I have to be at Trinity Church today by 10:30 so we can run the concert and I can hear the singers on mike with the piano for balance.  It's going to be good.  Patricia Noonan, our soprano, is a beautiful brunette with a wonderful voice; I've known our soubrette Meggie Cansler since FINIAN'S RAINBOW, and I love her; she makes me laugh; our tenor, Michael Marcotte, is one of our ROBERTA Collegians and he makes me laugh; and Arlo Hill, our baritone, just won the Lotte Lenya Competition, and he's fantastic, just excellent.  It's been such fun working with all of them.

After that, I want to work on my notes for George Gershwin's PRIMROSE, his 1924 London show we're presenting next week.  Meggie and Michael will be back for that, with Sara Jean Ford, who's on the Victor Herbert Collected Songs, Weston Wells Olson who's currently in LES MIZ, and Tim McDevitt, another one of the ROBERTA Collegians, and a fantastic baritone.

DR ChasSmith, I'm sorry I will not see you today or next week.

Have you all seen the fantastic video of the cat rescuing a 4-year-old boy from attack by a dog? They just showed the video on this morning's news. The cat's actions are amazing; the boy needed 10 stitches, so he couls hae been really mauled if the family's cat hadn't rescued him.

I'm starting my prep for tomorrow morning's colonoscopy.  While I'm not excited about doing the prep and the procedure, I really needed the extra day and a half off from work

I like the GUYS & DOLLS orchestrations on the Nathan Lane-Faith Prince revival.

I like DR ELMORE's orchestrations for BRAINEX.

I like the original DREAMGIRLS orchestrations.

I am sure there are more.

As if I don't already have problems, my coffee maker is on the fritz.  Not that it's a problem like my others, but after all we're tawkin' cawfee.  Cawfee tawk topic: Do you like the cut of my jib?  And, is a jib a good thing to cut, or does it necessitate anaesthesia or some numbing agent, perchance?

I'm nervous as I'm having a little procedure done on my toe today.  I have an ingrown toenail, the result of not being able to reach my toes after my shoulder surgery.  It is odd how a shoulder injury caused so many little problems with my feet when I couldn't take proper care of them.

I hope I don't regret doing this.  I expect most people wait until the pain is greater than mine or there are more issues.  I am walking slower on the treadmill and not jogging.  To me that is a big problem.

I think the concert went very well; it was recorded and is up on the Church's website:
http://www.trinitywallstreet.org/videos?field_event_category_tid=481&field_event_category_tid_1=All&sort_by=field_datetime_value&sort_order=DESC
We are the Concerts at One for 5/15.

I can be seen sitting on the right about four rows from the front.

and up at nine thanks to someone from the film crew shooting at the usual house down the street - NINE o'clock in the morning asking if he can pay me and serve lunch to the cast and crew on the front lawn.  I said absolutely not.

OMGosh, I would have let them do it for free, as long as I could join them! What fun that would be!

BK, why are you so mean to the filming crews. If you were making a production on location someplace, wouldn't you hope that the residents would be cooperative?

Which reminds me of a Roger Corman story from a book about him or from an interview, I forget which.

He was filming TEENAGE DOLL (1957) on location in a neighborhood after dark. The resident of the house they were filming next to turned on his sprinkler, probably hoping to be offered money to turn it off. Working on a tight budget, with no money to spare, Corman started talking loudly to the camer-man telling how wonderful the light reflecting off of the water from the sprinkler will look in the scene.

Seconds later the sprinkler was turned off.  ;D

DR ELMORE what does sheep's eye and licorice tooth mean?

Your guess is as good as anyone else's!  I always thought it had to do with a shy look and  sweet tooth, but  Loesser eplained how he arrived at it in a letter that's printed in Susan Loesser's book about her father, A MOST REMARKABLE FELLA. He wanted a companion word that meant "covetous", fearing "sheep's eye" did not completely convey the exact thoughts of the guy who would be gazing at her. He went to Roget's and found that "lecherous" was a sort of synonym for covetous, but didn't quite like the way it sounded, so he consulted the Oxford English Dictionary and found that two archaic spellings of "lecherous" were "licorice" and "lickerish." He chose the latter.

Also, see this:
