Will there really be a 'Morning'?

by Emily Dickinson

Will there really be a "Morning"?
Is there such a thing as "Day"?
Could I see it from the mountains
If I were as tall as they?

Has it feet like Water lilies?
Has it feathers like a Bird?
Is it brought from famous countries
Of which I have never heard?

Oh some Scholar! Oh some Sailor!
Oh some Wise Man from the skies!
Please to tell a little Pilgrim
Where the place called "Morning" lies!

I do hope DR Vixmom is feeling well and made it safely, and easily, to the tire place.

The start of a favorite, from Noel Coward:

I can remember, I can remember
The months of November and December
Were filled for me with peculiar joys
So different from those of other boys.
For other boys would be counting the days
Until end of term and holiday time;
But I was acting in Christmas plays
While they were taken to pantomimes.
I didn't envy their new suits,
Their children's dances and Christmas trees;
My life had wonderful substitutes
For such conventional treats as these.
I didn't envy their country larks,
Their organized games in panelled halls,
While they made snowmen in stately parks,
I was counting the curtain calls.

Do you think that's how Noel Coward really had felt, that it was his real point of view, or was he (perhaps) rationalizing what he didn't have?

Remember
By Christina Rossetti
Remember me when I am gone away,
         Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
         Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

I just love Steve Marzullo's setting of this poem, sung by Rebecca Luker on one of her albums.
Here's a link to a performance:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZMkZ5S8B7Q
The sound and balance are awful, and the cello part is missing, but it's still very effective.

He performed in Christmas pantomimes as a schoolboy, it's my memory he met Gertrude Lawrence in one of them, maybe PETER PAN; I'm sure it's pretty accurate

The drum circle has concluded, and the light rail trains are running!

It is also grey, raining, and with winds approaching 60mph! Needless to say, the drumming was moved inside.     :P

The poem has the patina of nostalgia about it, but there's also a sense of alone-ness, more than loneliness, that gives the poem a sad tone. He's really in a world by himself and maybe his mother, even as he's surrounded by so many other people.

Here's the whole of "The Boy Actor":

I also really like Yeats. Here's the intro of Sailing to Byzantium with its intro line that inspired the title of Cormac McCarthy's novel:

That is no country for old men. The young
In one another's arms, birds in the trees
---Those dying generations---at their song,
The salmon-falls, the mackerel-crowded seas,
Fish, flesh, or fowl commend all summer long
Whatever is begotten, born, and dies.
Caught in that sensual music all neglect
Monuments of unaging intellect.

Larry, given who's directing Paint Your Wagon and Zorba, and that the person likes your work a lot, does that help to mean a solvent time for you?

Patrick Healy in the Times is reporting After Midnight set to close after Patti LaBelle's engagement in it; and he reports sources saying the theatre will go to the (truly excellent) Honeymoon in Vegas.

Back from a good meeting and poached eggs and an English muffin, then some errands and whatnot and the picking up of one package.

From DR Cilla:
Quote
On July 11 if you go into a Chik Fil A totally dressed as a cow you get a free meal.  If you go only partially dressed as a cow you get a free entrée.   Who would do that?

LOL  It might be fun to drive by and see.

I suppose if you had a cow costume you could go. :)

I just came back from an outdoor swim meet.  The summer season does not start until june 25th. But the winter swim team had an outdoor meet. But half the kids were scratched (paid but did not show up).

It was supposed to rain but didn't. It was actually pretty nice out, just windy.

The kids had fun though. My niece's group of 4 kids swam 3 relays in a row. They had so much fun though. They swam a fun relay at the end dressing a coach in hula gear which the kids kept at the end.

No, since both shows are pretty much set and the orchestra parts, scores, and hopefully full scores exist. I might get asked to come in and proofread if Rob Berman or Joshie needs help. I personally think I should have been asked to orchestrate LADY BE GOOD because I know more about musicals of 1900-1924 and their orchestrations than anyone alive, but I doubt I will be.
