Cudos to the Japanese fans who went to Brazil for the World Cup.  After the game they cleaned up every bit of trash in their section.

And I agree with you, DR John G. - she should be able to sing the heck out of that role.

Who would you like for Letitia?

Bats. Ugh. I suppose they're interesting from a distance, but I had an up-close-and-personal encounter that I'd rather not repeat.

Many years ago, the lovely, tree-lined, residential street I lived on was being modified to a main route by the PTB (Powers That Be) in the city. The large trees that shaded the street were removed to make way for street widening. Guess what? Lots of wildlife live in the trees. One night a bat got into the house. I had gone to bed, not knowing I had company. Then I started hearing little noises and sensed that something was in the room. He'd be very quiet for long periods, then SHWOOSH! Arrrgghhgh!! thinking he might be rabid I was afraid to upset him. It was a horrible night!

The next morning i called my friend Mal, my go-to guy for so many things. Mal came over and captured the bat and put him into a shoe box. Mal was very concerned for the bat's health, but seemed quite indifferent to my harrowing night! I called the city wildlife agency and they came and picked up the bat. I have no idea what they did with him. He may have been dead by then.

Finally got my mail from when I was on vacation. Great to get the sheet music from Two Roads plus a host of other goodies. And only two bills.

I was helping Bryan move into an apartment in Ann Arbor, Michigan when a bat flew into the building.  Together we captured it and put it back out.  Bryan said he did that many a time after.  If the doors were left open the bats flew in.

Craig is the one I'm proud of.  In Pennsylvania, just before he turned 4, the older neighbor boy told him the bats would swoop down and bite him.  Even as an adult he did not like bats.  Yet, when one was trapped in his apartment he padded his clothing, put gloves on and captured it before releasing it back outside.

Jane, the salesman who sold me my new car keeps a book of photos of his customers in front of their purchases. It was so hectic last week that I asked to wait. (Apparently, a car hasn't officially been sold until it's driven off the lot.) When we do that I'll ask him to email the photo to me and I'll post it.

Funny, or sad, is that we never knew the Pennsylvania bat story until we moved here.  The first summer friends and their children visited.  We were all lying down on the deck watching a great meteor shower.  It was summer, and we had bats flying around which the rest of us were ignoring.  Suddenly one came down a bit low but only Craig goes flying up and into the house.   He did come back out to be teased :)

After he rescued the bat I believe he overcame his fear of them.

But they can be dangerous.

WOW Cilla!  I just watched.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9d7DDQawVE

I am extremely glad this didn't hit you.

Did your family have much damage?

A big tree branch down and their power was out for awhile.  My brother went to check on my parents and it wasn't bad.  There is a ton of water and he said downtown was a mess.  I think it's mostly water there, don't really know

Speaking of Craig.....The 3rd graders where he works had a special lesson on the brain which included a real brain.  When the guest speaker giving the talk offered for them all to touch the brain, wearing gloves, Craig had no intention of doing so.  The children insisted so he had too  ;D

The last siting of a tornado out of that storm was 7 miles outside of Sioux City.  We are very lucky

That doesn't sound too bad as long as there isn't more damage from the water.

There are till tornadoes in Nebraska, so we could be going to the basement again, but I'm hoping it's passed.

I have never seen a bat before. I did not even know that seeing one was a possibility.

I've seen them outside and that's fine.  I'd actually like to see them in Austin, but don't want to get up close and personal

;D   Do you keep a cooler down there and a cold pack in the freezer to take down with you?
