DR JANE I saw the film version of CLOUD ATLAS and it was okay.....so I read the book....and I liked it a LOT!!!

Thanks.  Keith reminded me that we turned the movie off.  I'm glad the book should be better.

Another "interesting", and longer book just came in.  Even though I'm in the mood to read Atlas first I will begin with Neil Gaiman's "American Gods" as I was on the waiting list a long time for it and "Cloud Atlas" doesn't have a queue.

I do not like bats.....especially when I wake up and one is circling by bedroom

Fortunately none have entered the house and I hope it stays that way.

I have never seen a bat before. I did not even know that seeing one was a possibility.

They are kind of cool to watch fly past the window.  We have even seen a few hanging under the porch during the day.  That was kind of strange.

Big day for birthdays - DR George's Mom, DR Cillaliz's Dad, and my cousin Dan in Japan (where it's already tomorrow...)

Happy Birthday, All!

Today is also the 61st anniversary of my family's move from Portland, Oregon, to Detroit, Michigan.  Mom probably still has the letter telling from GM telling my dad that it would be a 2-year assignment and then we'd be back in the Pacific Northwest.

Today is my dad's birthday. He's 86 today

Happy birthday wishes to Cillaliz's DF. (I typed DD and realized that has been used as Dear Dog and I didn't mean that.)

Yes, DR Jane, it did, but my parents always dreamed of going back to Oregon or Washington.

Had a fun work session with Sandy and Lanny and also Lanny and Sandy.  Then I had to call Apple because the printer wasn't printing - when I went to system preferences to see if there was a problem it had somehow created a phantom printer, a doppleganger for the original.  We restarted everything and then nuked the phantom and it seems to be fine now.

T.O.D.

Mild Cheddar cheese and crackers (usually Ritz or Waverly Wafers).  LatelyTriscuit have been the cracker of choice because they have several new flavors.

Today will be a day.  Yesterday was Father's Day and today is my mother's birthday!  My sister and I got her a meat grinder attachment for her KitchenAid mixer (it's what she specifically wanted) and we're all going out to dinner at a local restaurant called Falls Terrace, which overlooks the Tumwater falls.  I haven't been there in a while, but they always have good food...if a bit pricy...for me. ;)

I love Fall's Terrace!

Did you sing " A Little Priest" to her when you presented the meat grinder?

DR Ginny, I almost wish we were getting that hot and humid spell.  I don't often use such language, but it's been way too cool here for this time of year.  We've only achieved low 80s on a few days, and my AC has yet to be turned on.  That having been said, I'm hosing the compressor down real well today (been putting it off) because it looks like I could be using it some tomorrow and Wednesday if we get into the mid-80s.  I came very close to it on a couple of those days recently, so it really is time to enjoy it some.

I guess I'm exaggerating a little bit because June can often be cool here.  I love the four seasons, but I like each of them to be solid, with a summer that's as notable as the damned winter.  If that makes any sense.

Well, it isn't officially summer until Saturday morning.

Good morning, all! I have nothing to report. I've got physical therapy at 10:15, and I hope to see my super before I head out. I would rather go back to bed.

I have nothing else to report this morning.

I hope that your apartment  woes are resolved quickly

As Paul said "I took food and went to the basement. You know it's bad if I take food to the basement"

;D   Do you keep a cooler down there and a cold pack in the freezer to take down with you?

No. I didn't take any food down, Paul did that at his house

DR TCB that is my baby brother David who is 50 years old.  I will give you his wife's phone number.

Will his wife do a lend-lease treaty with TCB, do you suppose?
Hard to say, DR Jrand63, but probably .

I am back on the 6th floor.  My desk is in disarray, naturally, but the important things have been done:  I have a functional desk fan and my Keurig single-serve coffee maker is plugged in.

I am glad you have your priorities in order!

An arrest in the Phoenix priest murder case.

I hope they  have the right guy -  did I read correctly that the young priest was killed  by the older priest's handgun?

Monday morning greetings!  We've closed up the house and turned on the air conditioning because it's supposed to be hot and humid all week  :P

What I thought was going to be an at-home day will now be interrupted by my 2pm appointment with our family doctor to have him remove a wood splinter from my finger.  I got it Saturday during some drawer cleaning and rearranging and cannot get it out myself.  One of our Lima parishioners, who does a lot of woodworking, offered to remove it for me yesterday at church, but I was chicken.

Silly, you should have let him do it.

Given the blood thinners I take, I really wanted some medical supervision.  My doctor did exactly what Mr. W offered to do, but the doctor numbed it first.  Afterwards, when I said something about the blood thinners, he said, "NOW you remind me!"

Anyway, it's gone and I will survive.

Glad to know Ginny has been successfully desplintered

We have potential tornado warnings tonight, but I'd love to go a few blocks for a free open rehearsal of one of my favorite local choral groups.

They are trying out their program before they travel to the Ravinia Festival.

The cats and I are in the basement in a tornado warning.  The storm with the double tornados in Nebraska is headed our way

I had a date on Sunday with a very nice guy named Gus (short for Augustin). He originates from Mexico, but has lived in the US for about 10 years. He studied medicine in Mexico but instead ended up becoming a welder here.

I told him that I have no interest in romantic entanglements at this time in my life, but he insisted. So I went and I had a good time. He is a nice guy, and I am sure we'll see each other now and then. And, I liked that his name is Gus. You don't meet many people named Gus anymore.

friendship can be nice too

TOD

Snacks, for me, too easily become whole meals.  I've been making a concerted effort to wean myself off of that kind of binge eating lately, because I'd let it get completely out of control over the past year.  The hardest part is not "snacking" as I sit and watch movies, and I'm working on that, too.

But that doesn't answer the question, so...  I guess any number of things, but in particular, good quality tortilla chips with salsa and/or guacamole, good salt-and-pepper potato chips, and peanut butter-filled pretzels.  That more or less covers the chip type of snack, but certain kinds of sandwiches are another downfall.  And again, especially when watching the TV or reading.  (I should do much more reading than I've been doing lately, but the eating while reading thing has been a staple with me for many, many years.  Another pitfall.)

What is a salt-and-pepper potato chip?

Has anyone read CLOUD ATLAS?  I just checked it out from the library.  It is a long book but I need something to read while I wait for 3 others to come in.

I didn't realize it was  book  I will have to look for it -- the first time we saw  the movie  we thought it was terrible --- but it seemed to be constantly onthe cable stations and we ended up seeing bits and pieces and then  ended up watching it again from start to finish   and suddenly  we "got" it

I think it takes  multiple viewings to appreciate it
