Thanks, DR George!
I've had another round of
Paint Your Wagon madness. Ted Rotal, who did the glorious ochestrations for
Brigadoon, was the orchestrator. The full scores for many of the numbers are a mess - tortured, revised, revised again - and while some numbers are accurately copied with occasional copying errors ("How Can I Wait," "I'm On My Way"), several major numbers ("I Still See Elisa," "In Between." "They Call the Wind Maria") have surprising discrepancies between the full scores, the vocal score and the rental orchestra parts.
I'm beginning to wonder if Loewe, Lerner, and music director Franz Allers mutually decided that Mr Royal would not be hired for
My Fair Lady.
