Dear Friend BK, I forgot to add in my note about NIGHT OF THE HUNTER that last night Noah Racey, who played Charley, asked me what I was working on and I told him I'd turned down three jobs because of my health.  I had totally forgotten about  HUNTER!

What I really want to orchestrate is the WHATIF revue.

I'd want Thelma Ritter for my landlady and Mildred Natwick as my aunt who cons a repairman to fix the oven.  Maureen would play my mother, and Robert Redford would play me.

Sounds like excellent casting, Larry. I think I mentioned ages ago that there actually was a very short-lived Canadian sitcom (pilot and one episode maybe) loosely based on stories I had told about my mother and her bridal shop. I did not write it. I cannot remember who played "me" - it wasn't Jane Fonda - but my mother was miscast TOTALLY. The head of CBC Drama, after viewing the pilot, insisted that the only RIGHT casting would be Yvonne de Carlo (a Canadian by birth, so she would have met the CBC nationality rules) and they must bring her in immediately. He knew my mother and he was so right. They did not bring Miss de Carlo in and the series died.

DiT I would but then I would eat all of the bran muffins.  Better to simply pick one up when I'm in the mood.

That makes sense. But I think I put myself in the mood and may whip up the batter this weekend. It's quite a production (2/3 cup wheat germ, 3 cups bran, 3 cups All-Bran, 5 cups flour ... you get the idea). There are some neighbors who like to share these things.

Gord, the DP(artner), has an elderly aunt who's quite a character - she likes to outdo everyone. She enjoyed these muffins and insisted on having the recipe. I told her the batter is for 60 muffins, but she could halve the recipe. (It's just the aunt and uncle in a small apartment.) But true to form she doubled the recipe. She later said she had to use a large plastic garbage pail, plus a canoe paddle for mixing.

We will hear no more rants about Bran Muffins - the ranter was given the name of two places where they could be found and where I have first-hand knowledge of their worth - Von's and Winchell's.

Now it's become a challenge. The market and Wichell's are too easy. (Besides, what kind of wuss goes to Winchell's to buy a muffin?) I'm obsessed with getting a muffin somewhere more muffin-friendly. Tonight I'm being interviewed in Hungarian by a six-foot-tall Hungarian ("How will I recognize you?") for a documentary about the Hungarian Revolution. (BTW, Larry - Robert Redford was also interviewed.) I was asked to suggest a cafe in which to meet, so I suggested the Aroma. Guess what I'm going to order?

BTW - I will bet five dollars right now that Winchell's has all sorts of lovely muffins - but not bran. (I'm tempted to make the same bet for Von's.) I'm talkin' plain bran here. I'll allow for raisins - but nothing else. Actually, bk, a new place in the hood which MIGHT have such muffins is Panera's.

I too would like to see DECEMBER BRIDE.  We have been enjoying our AMOS AND ANDY and SCIENCE FICTION THEATER.

Bruce I have been very dissapointed in Winchell's lately and would hesitate to try a bran muffin there.

Mr. Porter's television soundtrack for Aladdin did little to impress. I like the Supermarket in Old Peking number but I didn't find much else about to listen again.

A little quibble. The recording of the TV version of Aladdin is not a soundtrack, but rather a studio recording of the show. Basil Rathbone who appears in the tv version and sings is not on the recording, but his role is sung by someone else who sings another role. I think its George Hall. Don;t have the cd in front of me

December Bride was such a fun show. Back in the early 70s we had a channel that, during the summer, ran many old TV programs including December Bride, How to Marry a Millionaire, People's Choice, and all sorts of other goodies! Spring Byington is a joy to watch!

Uhg, these allergies are just killing me! My eyes are all bloodshot and puffy, my skin is pale, I am coughing and hacking and all around miserable. I went and had my hairs cut so that at tomorrow's wedding (Sam Gattucio and my darling, sweet faux-neice Mikayla Ryan) I won't look completely like something the cat (Freddy) dragged in...but looking in the mirror just now I don't know if it helped much! LOL!

OH, and Mt. St. Helen's is erupting!

Well, since I've had the bran muffin at Von's I'm here to tell you it falls within your normal category.  And I believe I've had a rather tasty one at Winchell's, but that was quite some time ago.

Michael, what did you do to provoke it?

Did you see that as part of the TCM musicals series they're going to show a letterboxed FLOWER DRUM SONG?  No sign, alas, of a letterboxed LI'L ABNER.

Since bran muffins have never been my favorite (I only like them occasionally) I wouldn't say I've ever had a super delicious bran muffin.

Since you bring it up... Bran muffins are not my favorite, either. That's why when I DO feel like a bran muffin, it has to be the best possible bran muffin, The creme de la creme of bran muffins (if that makes any sense). FYI - I did not know of the existence of muffins until I left Hungary. Muffins are not known in Budapest -- or weren't in my day. Neither was Jello.
DD tells, BTW, me that Hungary is the porn capital of the world. I guess you have to do something to make up for the lack of muffins.

I must go now.  First to water my outdoor flowers.  And then to finish reading a book (only 20 pages left).

Btw, is it sneaky that I told my sister about a book I really wanted at Costco, knowing that she would probably buy it?

And she did. :)

Any more talking about Bran Muffin's, it may become a "regular" topic here on HHW.  Either that, or we all may become "regular" about it.

Ok, that was bad, I aplogize.  Long day with kids in the classroom.  Who's idea was it to have a once a week music class on a FRIDAY?  Good luck teaching ANYTHING with substance when everyone's mind is on the weekend, especially after lunch!

I think you will really like the show, Jane.  It's hard for me to be fair about such things because anything that is a fantasy already has my interest.  I think that is why I didn't enjoy Boy From Oz and Wonderful Town as much.  They were ok but I would go see Wicked again before I would either of them.

My friend stopped by work to see how we were all doing so I didn't get a chance to miss her.  We did lunch.   I had Flan and it was W*O*N*D*E*R*F*U*L*L* !  MMMMMMM!
