Well, for nine years I've been deliberating about writing a choral piece, Appalachian Requiem, for my father.  It would be 4-5 folksongs/hymns from the Appalachian Mountains dealing with death, with hopefuly at least one funny song, and accompanied by fiddle and guitar.  I just received a call about a commission for a choral piece, so I guess I'm going to actually write it and stop putting it off.

DR CHAS SMITH I am so sad to read about your kitty.  I think everyone here at HHW will hug his/her pet a bit closer tonight.

If the Robbys are with me at all tonight, if I were to win I will be dedicating the award to Teddy.

That sounds like a great idea, BK.

Can only do if we actually win something tonight.

It was an unexpected call from completely out of the blue.  My thoughts on theology are pretty agnostic, but I do believe in something; I've had too many run-ins with guardian/protective spirits at times of crisis not to believe something's watching out for me.  Maybe it's those three pennies that DR JRand65 had me put in my window.

I'm thinking about a soloist and a layout something like this:
1. Lonesome Valley
2. Murder ballad
3. Something funny?
4. Mourning/Missing someone
5. Amazing Grace
I’ll use this as a roadmap while I do some digging around.  God knows what I'll find.

In 1975 or so, I accompanied a friend from college and community theatre in the Miss Southwest Ohio pageant. She was actually quite good, but she didn't win anything. When they announced the winners, her mother got out of her seat and walked up the aisle and out of the theatre, saying quite loudly "Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck . . ."

For the life of me, I cannot remember what she sang.  I do remember that my friend Dick Newman played the drums.

I shall now be on my way to the El Portal to oversee the set up for the Robby Awards, and then - it's the Robby Awards.  I'll have a full report for you when I get home. :)

Just to put a capper on this Monday (is it not over yet?), a beloved kitty is in stage four kidney failure.  She first developed kidney disease over two years ago, and this is the final stage.  (We've managed it beautifully since then with fluids.)  Not only that, she now has cancer, which showed up via a swollen lymph node, and it's probably in her kidneys as well.  Not only that, but she also has feline AIDS which (of course) she tested negative for when adopted several years ago.  Apparently it can be passed from the mother and lay hidden.  Just for comic relief, we'll have the urinalysis results tomorrow.  She's very subdued, but is contented and eating and is not yet down for the count.  But that count will come fairly soon.

Hard, hard, hard.  Wishing you vibes of comfort and some good days ahead with your beloved girl.

Did anybody care for any of the commercials yesterday? I confess I found them largely uninspired and even creepy in a not good way.

I found a lot of them really creepy. There were dogs dressed as hotdogs attacking and licking people dressed as ketchup. There were puppy monkey babies. There were singing sheep. And those were the memorable ones. Really a lot of what were they thinking moments.

This is a sweet thought if you win or not.  You have talked about Teddy so often over the years it was a sad shock to read your news.

Back from Costco and an omelet and a bagel.  As most of you know, I am rarely affected by deaths because I am a pragmatist, but Teddy was like family in a similar way that Susan Gordon was when she passed, or Laurie Beechman or Michelle Nicastro.

Yes, and why I have been thinking of you all afternoon. :(

Neither am I, except toasted almonds in biscotti or mandel breit.

I love most any kind of nut, though I can only take one or two macadamias at a time. They're kinda oily to me.

Not when covered in chocolate.

;)

Or covered in rich toffee, drenched in luscious milk chocolate, finished with a sweet dusting of powdered sugar.

I like them plain too.

That would be funny in a movie, but truly embarrassing in reality.

I'm glad we didn't take this cruise.  Scroll down and watch the video in the story.  They don't say what deck their room was.

I kind of laughed at the people who complained about being locked in their rooms.  I certainly would not want to be walking around the ship in that.

Our Alaskan cruise, the one we met you and Tom on our way home from Seattle, had hurricane like winds on the last night.  There was someone stationed at each exit to outside to prevent anyone from going out there.  I don't know how high the waves were because it was night.  I'm sure they weren't this bad since I never saw anything fall.
