On the topic o' the day:

Let's acknowledge the ne plus ultra of all torch songs and the icon who sang it like no one else:  "The Man that Got Away," as rendered by Miss Judy Garland.

Mr. Craig Brockman e-mailed me to say he was sorry he did not attend, as planned.  He got stuck at a meeting, and didn't seem to have any phone numbers on him.  I shall take him at his word.

Topic:  "Baby I'm Burning" by Dolly Parton.

Seriously:  The entire Carly Simon album "Torch".

"Losing My Mind" - Dame Edna & I think others have sung it too.

Good Evening/Morning!

WOW!  Sounds like a great time was had by all!  Again, I really wish I could have been there especially since Sal and Liz showed up - I haven't seen them in years either!

-Actually, one of my favorite Sal and Liz moments was when copies "Lost In Boston IV' and "Unsung Musicals III" (Or was the LiB III and UM IV???  In any case...) had arrived at Arena Stage where Sal and Liz were playing opposite each other in Sunday in the Park with George.  Everyone ooh-ed and aaah-ed.  Someone asked what it was like recording those songs, and working with Bruce... They said they had a good time, and liked how efficient BK was in the studio.  -Then Sal did his impression of BK in the studio...
:D

-Sheesh, I hadn't thought of that in years, and now it all makes sense!!! ;)

-And Sal Viviano does a spot-on impression of Mandy Patinkin too!

But I digress...

Now maybe your PR lady could get you booked into the newly relocated "Creatures and Crooks Bookstore" in Richmond... Hmmm...

Are DRs DerBrucer and SWW driving back tonight? If so... Safe travels.

Favorite torch song: "Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out To Dry"

-Is that a "real" torch song?  I know "torch" is mentioned in the verse.  ;)  -Isn't it?

I only have one more term paper, but it's The Big One. And then I have finals. Oy. Plus I'm getting sick *cough, cough*

I overheard something today. "I'm gonna go home now and get your fish out of the toilet." What more can I say?

Well, I've been questioning myself much too much tonight... So...  In preparation for an 11 hour tech tomorrow... (Well, more like 4 hours of tech, a 3 dinner/nap break, then 4 more hours of tech)... In any case...

Goodnight.

DRSANDRA - that is frightening!

Torch songs.

DRJAY I think has chosen the Mother of them All as sung by the Miss Frances Gumm.

I will only add as honorable mentions:

Love You Didn't Do Right by Me - Rosemary Clooney
Love Me or Leave Me - Doris Day

And a performance I happened to see that stung me with its truth - in the touring company of SUGAR BABIES many, many years ago....Miss Jaye P. Morgan was rolled out on the front of a ice cream bicycle cart.....she was wearing a long blue sequined dress - she crossed her legs and proceeded to sing "Don't Blame Me" and brought down the house!

Isn't it strange how there are some things you will NEVER forget?

Jane astonished me by how young she is.  So, another year on her can't possibly show.  Have a good one!

Sheldon Harnick's spoof of a torch song, Garbage, is a favorite of mine.  Carla Mercun did it slendidly in the revue I devised a few years back, Grand Knowing You.

I like Why Can't I Forget, but I know way too little about the song.

Most of the famous torch songs do nothing for me.  I can tell where they're going, and there they go.

Before I forget (again), I want to thank my two cyber children, Ann and Jed, for their kind and extremely biased comments about my performance in SCROOGE.  It is truly a dream come true to play that role in Mr. Bricusse’s lovely musical.

.......and I suppose some credit should go to Mr. Dickens.

I am a little confused (okay, a lot), but isn't the Donna that posted yesterday Donna from Cabaret West?
