I am back from the Petco cat adoption event, which is every Saturday from 2-6, courtesy of the Animal Project:
http://www.nycanimalproject.org

I submitted an application for a 2-month old orange and white male kitten named Thatch, who was rescued a month ago from the roof where he was living.  He's really adorable.  We'll see what happens now.

There were maybe 20 cats and kittens up for adoption.  I also liked four-month old Sebastian, who facially would pass for Annabelle's identical twin brother, but her body is grey with black streaks and his is mostly black, or a dark grey, with lighter grey markings.

That's the way I feel, Jane!  I was surprised that my folks weren't really planning on doing anything special, even go out to dinner, otherwise.

We were supposed to go to Madagascar which unfortunately has been dropped due to an outbreak of the Plague.

That almost sounds like a punchline in A Little Night Music.

I expect they really didn't plan anything.  Unless we go away for our anniversary we often don't plan anything ahead of the day.  Just being together is enough.

First we are celebrating my birthday on the island of Mauritius, where we'll spend three nights prior to taking a two week cruise of the Indian Ocean and East Africa. Ports include locations in Reunion, Mozambique, and South Africa. (Madagascar, which we were looking forward to should have been after Reunion). We disembark in Cape Town and spend three nights in the city prior to boarding Rovos Rail's "Pride of Africa" and a 1,000-mile journey north to Pretoria. (The experience incorporates Victorian-era passenger cars and recreates rail travel during Colonial times. Think Agatha Christie and the Orient Express without the drama.) From Pretoria we head to nearby Johannesburg--flying out the next morning to Zimbabwe and Victoria Falls. From there we travel to Chobe National Park in Botswana for five days at a safari camp on the banks of the Zambezi river.

Does anyone here plan to see the new MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS? Personally, I saw no need for a remake, but that's the movie business these days. I'll probably watch it when it comes to DVD.

Joshie says he's afraid I'll go crazy and have 12 cats by Christmas.
You will not become CillaLiz.

She only had three cats, and she has a big house.

Yes, but she often joked about being a crazy cat lady.

Like I said, Elmore, if Annabelle gets out, someone will be able to have her scanned for the chip.

I know, but I still wanted a collar and tag with info.  Hopefully, she will never get out.

I understand you wanting her to have a collar, and unfortunately many people don't know to scan for a chip.  Awareness is growing and any shelter or rescue group would check for one, as would a vet if she were to be taken in as a rescue.

That would be my concern. Even if they knew, people are so busy these days and might not have the time to take the animal to a vet.

TOD:

I eat very little fried food. I do love samosas and pakoras, but I don't eat them often. I look forward to the day when air fryers are in every commercial kitchen.

Thank you.  Keith works the photos when we travel & can only put them on facebook so I will rely on folks here to transfer them, if that is possible now.

There will also be times we won't have an internet connection or cell service.
