Most mugs are dishwasher safe, although I know a few mugs who aren't dishwater safe or safe in any other way.

As for Miss Davis, there is no contest for me:  All About Eve.  Every she did beforehand led up to it, everything she did after didn't touch it.

The soundtrack LP of LI'L ABNER has different orchestrations from the film, too.

DR Jose is perfectly correct. PCs can go into sleep mode as well. All of my computer sleep each night and are awakened at the touch of a button each morning. Once every two weeks or so, I do power down, but otherwise they're in sleep mode.

DR Stuart - If Abie and Morgan LeFay Brittany Fairchild are related, would that make us (this includes DB Jay) in-laws? Does that mean that I have to visit Dear Mother in OC?
While we ponder that... here are more of Chooster's adventures in the home environment.
Here he is visiting the sheep and the robots in the living room...

My favorite Joan is FLAMINGO ROAD. I think I read it's being readied for DVD release. Now, for camp value, I think TORCH SONG and FEMALE ON THE BEACH are miles ahead of everything, but I think her performance in FLAMINGO ROAD is earnest and spot-on (even if she's about 15 years too old for it.)

I'm proud of all my children.  I don't know if it's the ONE I'm most proud of, but, as I've said before, Unsung Irving Berlin was an amazing experience (going through Mr. Berlin's trunk songs) and the album turned out just the way I wanted it to.  l'm also very proud of Unsung Sondheim (ther first of its kind - oft imitated) and Liz Callaway's Frank Loesser album - just because they were the first two we did and because, despite the fact that none of us knew what we were doing, they still came out really well.

On Unsung Sondheim and Liz' recording, I kept thinking, perhaps we can fix it in the mix!  Oy!  You did something really great when we finished them both (besides not firing me):  you came up, gave me a hug, and told me to be sure to register for frequent flyer miles!  I knew I had some work for a while.

Jane and Keith, I am so sorry about Echo.

Welcome, new Dear Reader OzDerek. Do you like Cherry Coke?

Nice pictures, Dear Reader Panni. All Chooster needs is a mini-Swedish Chef hat and he's all ready to go.

I'm almost out of this fudge. What will I do then?

Oh, and for Bette Davis - I'd have to say NOW VOYAGER.  Which is, strangely enough, the one Bette Davis movie I've watched multiple times - well, maybe just three or four.  But that's three or more times than some others.

OK - Time for me to get ready for the show...  I'm meeting a former profe for dinner beforehand, and he's coming to see the show.  -Something tells me the post-mortem is going to be particularly delightful and wicked tonight. ;)

Oh, oh, oh...

Four o'clock and the Master not yet home...

Pray God nothing's happened to him crossing the Hudson!  Here it is the coldest day of the year.  The dogs are sticking to the sidewalks.  Can anyone explain that?

At least, that's how I remember it!

Most fim musicals have different orchestrations.  They like to take advantage of huge Hollywod orchestras after that piddly 28-player Broadway sound!

No one should ever "finger" a "mug" -- for one thing, ya never know where its been...and for another, it probably has no passing acquaintance with any type of cleaning regimen, much less dishwashing.

I think you misunderstood the point I was making. The orchestra backing the singers during the movie sounds different from the commercially released film soundtrack album, at least to my ears. The orchestra on the soundtrack LP sounds like 100 pieces large, and while looking at the actual film, it sounds like about 10 pieces. "Put "Em Back" to me was especially shocking to compare.

I'm not talking about the Broadway album at all.

The Abner soundtrack is very strange - the LP orchestrations ARE different than the film orchestrations even though the vocals remain the same.  I don't think the movie orchestrations sound thin, though, although the VHS tape doesn't really present the sound very well.  If there's ever a DVD with a 5.1 mix, my guess is it will sound excellent.

I've had the movie COLLATERAL waiting to be watched for days, and I just can't seem to get to it, and with a full evening of TV ahead, I guess it'll be another day before I can even have a chance of getting to it.

Thanks, bk, for validating what I've been hearing all these years. I was starting to think it was in the Twilight Zone or something with no one hearing what I was hearing.

Next time I do errands I may take Chooster with me. Think of the pic possibilities... Chooster at the bank, Chooster at Trader Joe's, Chooster dining a DuPar's (no Chinese Chicken Salad!)

True, DR Sandra, no Swedish Chef's hat exists for the Choo (his nickname - only the closest friend call him that). I may have to find other clothing for him.

DRMattH, I probably did!  It's been my experience that usually a "soundtrack" recording is the actual track of the film, and that it's usually a new orchestration for the film version.  I never owned the LI'L ABNER soundtrack so I've never compared the sound of the videocassette with the LP.

Last week, when I watched the Julie Andrews CINDERELLA on DVD, because the LP recording was done a week earlier, the mixes are different, and often the vocal assignments were changed.   I remember thinking as I watched the DVD, I didn't know that part of the Gavotte had dialogue over it.

In Kurt Ganzl's book of musical theatre on record, he comments that the OKLAHOMA! film orchestrations are by Russell Bennett but they don't sound like the originals.  Ive seen the scores; it's a whole new megillah.
