Blythe Danner's Hair is finished, kaput, a thing of the past.

I love a real old-fashioned cream puff with scads of REAL whipped cream.  I, too, like chocolate eclairs but only with whipped cream.  I love a real old-fashioned cinammon roll, too, with butter on it.  Oh, dear, now I've got the craving.  Yes, I've got the fershluganah craving.

Hmmm... Today's Topic... Pastries!!!

-The above phrase should be "heard" in the same tone of voice that Homer Simpson uses when he thinks of "Donuts" or "Beer".

;)

A really good, authentic croissant always makes me happy.  Unfortunately, a lot of what passes for a croissant is merely puff-pastry dough rolled up to look like a croissant.  Phooey!  But a true croissant is a simple and sinful pleasure.  Just flour, water, milk, yeast, a touch of sugar (to feed the yeast, not to sweeten the dough) and butter.  That's all.  I've made them a few times.  It's a lot of work, but soooo worth it.

Related to a croissant is a pain au chocolat - which is basically a croissant with chocolate in it.  Chocolate chips simply will not do for these treats.  It must be batons of bittersweet chocolate.  -Avec une tasse de café au lait... C'est magnifique!

And then there's croissant aux amandes with marzipan in the middle.

And speaking of marzipan... A frangipane tart with pears and marzipan... YUM!!!

On the savory side of things, the classic Alsatian onion tart, a pissaladière, which is sort of like a French pizza.  A pastry crust topped with caramelized onions, herbs, and a touch of heavy cream.  So simple, but, again, so good.

Beard Papa's Cream Puffs, a Japanese pastry company is causing quite the sensation in New York, New York. Each cream puff consists of a 2 layer shell. The inner shell is a choux pastry shell, and the outer shell is a piecrust. Each puff is filled with a mixture of fresh whipped cream and vanilla custard every time an order is placed. Lines form around the block, at least at the one I visit at Broadway and 76th. Must...have...one...now........

Well, the WUSSBURGERS have struck.  I, alone, am not a WUSSBURGER.  Unless Iris would like to get off her Hilary or Howard Duff and contribute.

I'll have to post about pastries later.  Very late yesterday, Jed wrote:

Who was the choir director at WWU when you were there, George?

And before I had a chance to answer (okay, I was away from my computer and still logged in), he wrote:

Well, now that I've asked him a question, George has up and disappeared. Suppose it's to be expected from them WWU Vikings types.

Anyway, Jed, the director was Dr. Robert Scandrett.  Do you know who he is?

I have just contributed the tale of the Beard Papa Cream Puffs, mere moments ago.
Perhaps, BK, they can be served at your book signings, along with plenty of Diet Coke!

Well, perhaps I'll just toddle off to the bed environment.  Perhaps I'll have a lovely dream.  I believe I had a lovely dream last night - I believe kissing was involved.

So what does it mean when you dream about kissing and wake up to find your pillow missing?  This is truly a mystery!

I spent some hours today visiting OzDerek in hospital.
Whilst he is a newcomer here, any positive thoughts sent his way would be appreciated. I did ask if I could post the fact that he was hospitalised. Sometimes I think I have problems with which to cope - the battles that this Hainsie has fought (and won) are amazing. He will get through this setback too.

I love Beard Papa's Cream Puffs, DR Iris212. It melt me everytime I have. I didn't know they have a shop in NYC. And they have many shops in Tokyo, however, customers are always waiting in long line to get them. But it's worth doing so, I think. Try it! ;)
