A MONDAY SORT OF MONDAY
« on: January 23, 2005, 11:58:42 PM »

Well, you've read the notes, hopefully you're in both a Monday (day) and a Tuesday (Weld) sort of mood, and now it is time for you to post until the sort of cows come home.

The set I want to be a fly -on -the wall would be Becket, because not only were O'Toole and Burton brilliant actors but they were also brilliant raconteurs, and just plain brilliant men...The conversations and antics must have been great fun and then you throw Gielgud into that mix and it would be "interesting"...to say the least.

Film Set: "Cleopatra" - Just to be among all that excess.

Broadway Show: A Chorus Line - All those stories.  All those characters.  All those egos!

I would certainly want to be a fly-on-the-wall on the set of Li'l Abner, for obvious reasons.  But I might like to have been a fly-on-the-wall during the shooting of Casablanca, with all those amazing actors.

In theater, I'd like to have been a fly-on-the wall during the Gypsy rehearsal period, and also West Side Story.

Well, I was actually sleepy about three hours ago.  I think my body was in an "8:00 show mood", even though we had a 6:00 show tonight.  -Kind of like that Monday/Tuesday paradox BK talked about in his notes.  So...

Goodnight.

What I need is a good old-fashioned massage.  What I need is a live-in Geisha Girl, who will rub my temples, walk on my back, and sing me a Japanese lullaby so I can be lulled to sleep by the Japanese Sandman.

Hisaka - any ideas?

I would have loved to be a fly-on-the-wall during Follies.  It's one of my absolute favorite shows.  Gypsy also would be on my list of shows to be a fly-on-the-wall during rehearsals.

Fly-on-wall in Theatre:  Barrymore's Hamlet.  Olivier's Oedipus.  Both Barrymore's and Olivier's Richard III's.  Kean's Richard III.  MY AMERICAN COUSIN at Ford's Theatre, the night Lincoln got shot...harrowing but history!

In addition to the popcorn snack I ate last evening, I also had an amusing trifle - a Stouffer's Lean Cuisine three-meat pizza pie.  It's only 300 calories and I must say it was quite tasty and tiny, not necessarily in that order.  Can a truffle be an amusing trifle?

The iPod is on for a bit.  On Shuffle Play.  Bill Evans is playing away most beautifully - that just puts me in a perfectly perfect place to sleep well.

Jan Akkerman is playing beautiful guitar with Claus Ogerman's incredible orchestrations.  It's the guitar equivalent of the Bill Evans with Sympony Orchestra.  The CD used to be impossible to find - but it comes up on eBay quite often and quite inexpensively.  Just search Jan Akkerman - the album has several titles - mine is Aranjuez, but just go into the listing and if it's got eight to ten tracks, all classical, with Claus Ogerman and his Orchestra, that's the one.  You will NOT be sorry.  In fact, you will become obsessed with it, as have I all these years.

Well, if we can't get any ACTION, baby, then I shall be toddling off to the bedroom environment to get me some beauty sleep.  I shall wait but ten more mintues and also ten more minutes.  Although I prefer waiting mintues to minutes.

"Tea with Mussolini" would be my choice of film - just to see and hear the cast interact.
Already enough available about "Follies" and "A Chorus Line" so I my choice would be "Kismet". WFO might well  be a fly on the other wall.

Several months ago, there was a concert by Audra McDonald on NPR (it's still archived HERE).  I recorded it (shhh...don't tell anyone) and (I'm finally getting around to breaking it up into tracks and putting it on a CD.  That's what I'm doing. ;D

WFO does not have a computer that works at the moment. Vixmom is acting as "Go-Between".

Good morning, all!  I slept fitfully, lots of dreams about pre-surgical exams and  deadlines, so I suppose that's the anxiety over the surgeon today.  I also had a weird dream about losing a godson in a complex similar to the godawful Marriott Marquis building:  looks like the inside of a pinball machine.

TOD:
Movie:  maybe NASHVILLE.

Broadway  MY FAIR LADY, for that legendary weekend Moss Hart worked with Julie Andrews before replacing her.

DR PANNI: Is your house close to the Farmers Market? I bought a bottle of almond butter from Magee's in the Farmers Market ,when I visited in LA last Novemver. The butter itself was yummilicious, besides, I had it with maple syrup on bread, which was incredible tasty! Is Magee's  famous there in LA?  I like the Farmers Market, like Benjamin Kitzer did, and also its surroundings.

Two days early for a BK question (thus, making Monday feel like Wednesday), but who is your favorite movie Geisha?

TOD:

Movie Set:  There are many to choose from, but today I would say I'd like to be on the set of Stage Door.  All of those great actresses somehow leveled into a ensemble by director Gregory La Cava.  It must have been a fun set.  I would want to hang with Eve Arden.

Theatre:  On the one hand there's Follies for the typical reasons, but I think I'll go with Merrily We Roll Along to see where things went wrong.  It would be educational, I think.
