The new kitty is very small, and begins meowing like crazy. the meow tells me it is tame; cats don't usually meow to each other, they meow at people.

So, I make attempts to catch it, and it runs every time. But comes back, because it is SO hungry.

So, I sit outside with a feather wand, and it comes near. Finally it comes close enough, and I can touch it. It rubs against my hand. And purrs.

I bring the kitty inside, and it purrs.

Grandma! Finish the story.  Are you going to socialize the new baby and make it your new Joshie?  Will you name it Betsy?

I fed the cats and went back to bed for two hours.  I had only one dream I remember:  I was working at The Drama Book Shop and Luciano Pavarotti came in, looking for a copy of Congreve's The Way of the World.  I guess it was the absurdity of Pavarotti and his heavy Italian accent acting Restoration English dialogue that made me remember it.

I have been trying to get a photo, but kitty won't get far enough away from the camera. It is all over me, like Annabelle on Elmore.

The cats seem quite normal today: the apartment is a mess from their romping, and they seem happy to gave their own cartons.  Annabelle prefers these shallow cartons that hold 24 cans of Fancy Feast, and Thatch has turned his Amazon carton on its side, so he can lounge inside it and look out on his domain.

You're his new mommy.  Do you have any estimate on its age?

Female, interesting calico markings, short-haired, and a loud purr.

You'll notice that "kitten" was not even in my list of requirements. I would have taken an adult calico.

Will you call him Lenny? like his Bernstein namesake?

When I was looking for a brother for Annabelle, my two choices were a creamsicle or a tuxedo.  This morning one of the cat rescue agencies was looking for someone to foster this baby, 4-week-old Emma (my paternal grandmother's name).  I almost said yes, so I'd get my tuxedo, but I'm terrified to being another cat into our lives without knowing its FELV/FIV status, and I'm not making enough at the moment to support another.

Someone must be missing this kitten. He is so loving. He is intact, so I don't think he was adopted from a shelter; they alter them before adoption.

I hope he is chipped. I just keep thinking a little girl cried all night because her kitten is missing.

If he's only around three months, that's too young to have been altered.

Not here; the shelters do it at 2 pounds. A private vet would wait.
