I am not sure all adoptions require a chip.  I hope so.  I know many good dog breeders who require it, sometimes the contract says the new family does it and others put them in first.  Of course just because something is in a contract doesn't mean it will be done.

All rescued animals and their agencies in Manhattan and environs claim to require it.  Thatch was not because the lady who runs his adoption agency was having health problems and didn't get to it before he was turned over to me.   When he was at the vet for his heart murmur in January, I had it done.

There was a Tony show where Ed Asner sang the Best Actress nominees -

Ed Asner sings the names of the nominees at about 8:31 here [after Liza Minnelli & "City Lights"]

T.O.D.

Who paid attention to record labels?

You bought the songs, or the artist.

Not surprising.  Have you looked on Craig's list or walked around for posters?

Sadly, keeping found pets is the reason many don't make it back to the people missing them.  I have always made some kind attempt even when I knew the odds were against it.

You want them turned into a kill shelter instead where, if they're not chipped, they either are put up for adoption or euthanized?  You have no idea if "the people missing them" really do.   Most are abandoned with the excuses of:
1. too many pets already
2. my landlord won't let me keep it
3. allergies
4. new baby

They never say:
1.  I'm dumping my girl (boy) friend's/husband's/wife's/child's animal to punish them
2.  It's too old and gonna die soon and I want a new pretty young model
3.  My unspayed animal - because I'm irresponsible - had a litter and nobody wanted to take any so I'm dumping them
4.  School's out and since i'm leaving town,  I'll just leave my pet on the streets to forage; it will survive
5.  I only used this animal for fighting or a breeding factory and now that it's worn out, I'm getting rid of it
6.  We don't want this animal when we move, so we'll leave it here
All six of these examples are pet owners who should be euthanized instead of their pet.

Chip it or be sure there's a collar with ID.  Granted, some collars get lost, but I honestly doubt many strays are missing animals.  In a year of checking Craig's list almost daily, I've seen maybe 5-10 lost animal posts.

I once found a cat in my yard that had been lost for several weeks. I picked up the lost poster and brought it home (before cell phones). He was from two blocks over. I was glad to get him back home.

DR elmore, what DR Laura said.

I never said anything about turning the found pet into a shelter, something I have never done.  I did search for adds and lost pet info in various places, including at the shelters.

I know the heartbreak of not finding a missing pet :(

I've been to market for a kitty treat.  When I got off the bus at my stop, Des and his Uptown Cats (https://uptowncats.org) were having an adoption event in front of Barnes & Noble.  I almost adopted five-month-old Stinky. Des rescued him a month ago, and he, like little Mego, has been a major concern of mine.  He was in severe condition with a prolapsed rectum, which you can see in the photo.  Stinky went through several surgical procedures to repair it, and now he's fine.  He and a sister were among the cats at the event.

Des and I talked about adopting him, but I told him I really couldn't but I would think about it.

Last night I tried to watch the original talkie of The Front Page with Adolph Menjou and Pat O'Brien, but the sound was so poor that I turned it off after 20 minutes and watched His Girl Friday. I sorta liked it, but I found it exhausting and I was amazed at the inside jokes.  I thought Ralph Bellamy was wonderful as Rosalind Russell's sadsack fiancé but I prefer The Front Page.  Lincoln Center Theatre should give us a first class revival;  their Dinner at Eight was fantastic

Who just revived The Front Page with Nathan Lane?

I saw the first half of the show way back in the day with Victor Jory as Walter Burns. (I had to leave at intermission because of a snow storm. Still bummed at that.)

Yesterday's concert was wonderful. Paul McCartney plays for 2:15. While his voice was ragged, his stamina was incredible. He's 76 and acted decades younger.

He played plenty of Beatles songs, including Lady Madonna, Back in the USSR, Helter Skelter, Obladie Obladah, Hey, Jude, Love Me, Do and A Hard Day's Night.
