Half Price Books is having its clearance sale today. I hope I can get out there. It's way across town. Nothing priced over $2.

Half Price Books doesn't have any stores in the Northeast, a fact that never fails to sadden me.

On the other hand, it's probably a good thing for me that they don't.

I've been to the Lincoln Center farmer's market and post office.  I doubt I will step out of the building again today.  Next up, laundry.

Last night at '2001' turned out to be as fine an evening as one could have hoped. Keir Dullea introduced the film, and sat for autographs and photos afterward. As I'd already heard, he's extremely personable, and very supportive of the film being seen by the widest possible audience. And trust me, a few of them were pretty wide.

(pause for polite laughter)

The presentation was very good for the theater's first showing (I flatter myself to think I was probably the only one in that audience to detect a couple of flaws which I hope they'll iron out for the remainder of the run), and I don't think I've known any present day '2001' audience to be as wrapped up in the film as this one. There were only a couple of hundred people in attendance, so not nearly a full house, but through it you could hear a pin drop, with no fidgeting or anything unseemly going on. There was reaction in just a couple of the right places, and most of them stayed to get a signed photo or have their picture taken with Dullea. (Which by the way wasn't free; it's all like "cons" nowadays, they don't give it away.)

Most importantly, friend Kristi - who had never seen the film in a theater and therefore had literally never cared about it in spite of very much liking other Kubrick films - LOVED everything about the movie. It was a revelation, which - better late than never, has SOLD her on seeing things the way they were meant to be seen.

Let's have a little photographic evidence, shall we?

This is one of the remaining original 70mm IMAX theaters with the six-story screen -- which tragically is going to be demolished late next year to make way for a replacement railroad bridge the state has to construct on the site. (Long story.) And that is Mr. Dullea, across the theater in our row, during the intermission of his own first viewing of the film on an IMAX screen.

I met Kier Dullea and his wife at the 68th Street movie theatre, maybe 10 years ago   They were a lovely couple.  I cannot remember now what the movie was!

TOD:
The tour of "Aida" had amazing sets (and costumes).
Mark and I always like to sit in the front row because we're short, but that means we really don't get to see the sets much.

She assisted last night, and was as delightful as he is.

Here's yrs truly, presenting him with the one original studio 8x10 I'd ever acquired, followed by three of us who were ready for our close-up.

I did an HHW search.  I met Kier Dullea and his wife, Mia Dillon, through my friend Conan McCarty.  I was seeing Run, Fat Boy, Run with former DR Jose, when Conan and they came out of the theatre.  They had seen The Visitor.  The date was indeed 10 years ago, April 12. 2008.

DR Jane, where in Quebec could people be travelling that there would be snow?  Temps in May usually are nice. But with the way the weather is who knows. It could be 60°F or it could be 80°F. We had a very very hot summer this year. Hopefully it will be the same next year.

I am guessing now that the photo was off of the internet and not something he took.

Non-Political post about Ted Cruz:

His Facebook live event kept turning every which way by whoever was doing the video on their phone.

My favorite comment about that was the twitterer who said:

"I didn’t know my mom was in charge of Ted Cruz’s Facebook live streams"

But I may not survive today's dancing. Five hours so far. Three to go.
