Finished Eric Idle's Always Look on the Bright Side of Life: A Sortabiography. Very funny stuff. Loved the tales of Spamelot. Though he had nothing but horror stories about Baron Munchhausen, it remains a favorite of mine.

My loofah has started to produce fruit. Strange during a week in which we're expecting frost.

I have images of your loofah sponge growing fruit in your shower.

I had to get my certification to pour wine tonight. I have to do this every two years and it's never easy. The class takes 2.5 hours with irritating quizzes throughout.

Just to pour wine.  What might be important to know that you need to take a class in the art of wine pouring?

That's only if it gets bigger. Its first phase is something edible, though friends of mine thinks that's debatable.

Sunday evening greetings!  Richard and I have been observing Veterans Day to the max.  Last night we went to Miami’s Hamilton campus to hear Erik Larson talk about his Lusitania book.  Today we went to the Oxford campus for the dedication of the Alumni Veterans Tribute and Memorial.  Tomorrow he’s going back to Hamilton for a film and dinner while I go to the Middletown campus for AAUW (not veteran-related).

TOD from yesterday:
Mark and I were evacuated at 3:00 am Friday morning, as we live in Thousand Oaks. It was horrible. We spent two hours packing and filled both our cars to the brim with valuables, including a cat and a dog. We didn't know where to go. We headed to my office in Woodland Hills to store some stuff, and started calling hotels. They were all booked, or didn't take pets. We finally found one that was booked, but some people had checked out early. We were so lucky in that regard. We had to buy a bunch of stuff at Target, like a cat box, litter, and toiletries for us. We ate sub sandwiches in the room for dinner. We slept that night, and  were going to stay for the next day, but there was a screw-up at the front desk and they couldn't see our reservation was through Sunday and they kicked us out at noon. I had friends who said they had just gone home, even though the evacuation order was still in place, so we did the same. When I got to our neighborhood it was as if there never was an evacuation, people and cars all up and down the streets - hilarious. We got the phone call at 7:30 pm last night saying the evacuation order had been lifted, whew! The air quality is terrible, but I have a mask for going outside.

Good to hear you were able to go back home!

Because we needed to be in Oxford for this afternoon’s ceremony, we decided to go to church there this morning.  The Episcopal church was very welcoming and I chatted with several people I hadn’t seen in a while.  We even stayed after for their Bishop-mandated active shooter training, which was more interesting than I expected.  Some of it, though, made me want to stay home with the covers pulled up over my head.

Back from a fun recording session, which went very well and pretty quickly.  We began at ten and wrapped by three and got all nineteen songs.  Some folks had never done a session before so I had to get them over their nervousness, while I had to be stronger with a couple of folks because they fudge stuff onstage that I let slide or they sing a wrong word here and there - so here I had to insist on no fudged notes and all correctly lyrics - and because people learn things wrong it is hard for them, but I just kept on about it and eventually got it all correct.   I have some photos to share in the notes.

Keith just changed out my keyboard for me.  I prefer my old one and only made the switch as I think this one will be more comfortable on my wrist and arm.  I am already holding it in a better position.

I am keeping my furnace at 66 degrees, but I have a couple of small space heaters to use in the computer room and the bedroom....we shall see how we fare as winter creeps upon us.

Watching the start of Berlin Alexanderplatz. Thirteen hours of life in the Weimar Republic. I hope I'm up to it. The start is intriguing.

Thank you all for the kind thoughts and prayers about Dad. My mother has to make the decision on what to do next. She has made that clear. We are there to help her. It's all we can do.
