Had brunch with friends today, followed by a group visit to another friend, who was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I hope we didn't wear her out, but it was good to see her.

I'm still reading Where the Crawdads Sing. I've gotten to where the author has gone full Harper Lee and it's too much like Mockingbird for my tastes. It's more like a paint-by-numbers kit, which is too bad because the earlier part of the novel was much more effective, if implausible.

Like Mockingbird?  I totally missed that.

The town ready to lynch the outsider. The blacks only in the balcony. The well-intentioned attorney slowly explaining the court to the defendant. It's Scout on trial.

We changed out our walk today and it was nice.  We drove and parked, then walked to Fort Vancouver, then to the downtown area to see how they changed the growers market.  We like what they did.  The we walked to the waterfront area that has been renovated.  While not completed it looks very nice.  Last stop, back to our car.  We did a rather large circle that was about 5 miles.

As we crossed the street at the corner of the library, the one DR George spent time at for a work event, we saw people holding signs.  We couldn't see if they were protesting something at the library or not and I can't find anything in the news about it.

My friend from college sent me this photo from the campus newspaper for the play BLACK COMEDY.  That is me in the middle playing the flaming Harold!

The first, last, and only big hit that I did in college.  Word of mouth spread so quickly that by closing night we were selling out.

My straight roommate was so horrified by my performance that I don't think he spoke to me for a week.

Sunday evening greetings!  Yesterday I attended a big fundraiser for the local presence of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.  The guest speaker was Thane Maynard, executive director of the Cincinnati Zoo.  He’s also the 90-second naturalist on NPR.  He was very entertaining and ended his presentation with a show and tell - his assistant walked all around the room carrying, first, a barn owl, then a baby alligator.

This afternoon we attended the unveiling of a new historical marker at the Middletown Canal Museum.  Fr. Richard delivered the invocation.
