DR TCB I am very pleased you are enjoying your washer & dryer but a bit surprised you used to be able to smell smoke on your clothes.  Did the laundry service you used to use permit smoking on the premises?

Or the people who did your laundry were themselves smokers and carried it on them. Either way, I'd find it unacceptable. Which was it, Tom? Or something else?

I agree about unacceptable even if you had to accept it.

I haven't even read the news today. Sometimes I don't want to know.

And it helps that you are not on facebook.

Austin was fun. The dim sum was great. Got my favorites: clams in black bean sauce, daikon cakes, egg custard cups. I was surprised at the number of vegetable options available, most of which were really good, including brocolini leaves and quick pickled cucumbers.

I'm glad you enjoyed Austin.  The vegetarian dishes sound good except I don't like broccolini and probably quick pickled cucumbers.

Thank you.  It is exciting.  I try not to think about since it won't happen until next year.

We were in a very small crowded restaurant this afternoon, and there was a man who came in who had a handgun in his pants pocket. I was afraid someone would bump him and it would go off.

Made me pretty nervous until we got outside. We were ready to leave, but I wanted to wait until he was in a place where he wouldn't get bumped.

It will.  At least we have a two week trip planned for September to keep us busy.  Really hard will be having the baby in Chicago and us here.  Of course we will go after she is born, depending on what is convenient for them.  I just wish it wasn't going to be winter when we go.  October would have been a much nicer time of year to travel ;D

Well, I need to be going now.  I'm off to my parents' and some door knob and deadbolt changing.

Until later.

Well, the door knob and deadbolt changing was quite the adventure!

It turns out that the door knob and deadbolt combo pack didn't fit the holes in my parents' door.

The holes in the door were too small for what I assume are the standard sizes for modern locking door knobs and deadbolts.

My parent's house and door (it's original!) were built in the 1960s.  Evidently, the door knob hole standard has increased by about a quarter inch.

I first went to the local Home Depot to see if they had door knobs that fit my parents' door holes, but none of them at the store specified a size, and all of the displays looked about the same size.  None looked any smaller. :-\

So, instead of going online and seeing if I could find something that might fit, I bought a door knob installation kit that had the drill bits to drill the correct sized holes in doors.  It was another expense on top of the door knob and deadbolt that I bought for my parents, but it seemed like the easiest solution.

It took a while to make sure that I would be drilling larger holes than what were already in the door, but actually all worked out...for the most part.
