Back to The Arrangement. I didn't like any of the characters in the movie, which isn't essential, I know. But I can't figure out why I'm watching all of these ugly people. Douglas can't overcome the writing, which is shallow and narcissistic on Elia Kazan's part.

Went for a nice walk around the neighborhood. With the sun not out, it was sort of pleasant.

The White Tower has a promising cast: Glenn Ford, Claude Raines, Lloyd Bridges, Oscar Homolka. But Valli is not my favorite. And Valli in Technicolor is an even less-promising proposition.

Great quote from Freddy Cole, Nat King Cole's younger brother and a great musician in his own right, who died recently at age 88:

"You don’t want to play all you know in the first two choruses. So I hit my stride at 70. . . . It’s just a matter of keep on plugging. . . . Sheer persistence.”

Sad to read that Elly Stone has died.  I met her once after seeing her in Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well . . . in Philadelphia in 1972.  She was very sweet.  Of the many times I saw the Brel show, at tyhe Village Gate, Philadelphia, and Cincinnati, none of her replacements came close to her performance.  I also saw one of her Carnegie Hall concerts in 1972.

That's too bad.  But wow...93 years old!

The other lady in the original Brel cast was Alice Whitfield, mother of My Cousin Vinny actor Mitchell Whitfield, and Alice became a friend in the late 1980s.  One day I asked her why she had only two solos in Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well . . . and she said, Because Elly Stone is a BITCH!

Today would have been New York's Gay Pride Parade.  I stopped marching when I left the Men's Chorus in 1998, and these days I would be trampled by those marching behind me, but in honor of the day, I will post this song by Fred Small as performed by my friends in the group, The Flirtations.  I dedicate it to the new grandmothers on HHW:

I've seen The Flirtations in concert here in Olympia at The Evergreen State College back in the 1990s, and was even able to get their autographs!  I still have (somewhere) their three CDs

Well, this is cool...I don't know for how long, but both Ann, a play about former Texas governor Ann Richards starring Holland Taylor, and Gloria: A Life, a play about Gloria Steinem starring Christine Lahti, are streaming on PBS' website.  Highly recommended (unless you just don't like either subject, or either actress ;) ).

It was fun to watch my University of Michigan classmate, Christine Lahti, in this performance Friday evening.  She's come a long way from Student Lab Theatre productions in Ann Arbor!

That's pretty cool that you were classmates, Ginny!  Did you actually get to know her?

DR Jennifer I also like the ability to switch from my book to the internet to look up people, events, and dates.  I

I don't want the distractions and like having an ereader only.  I get headaches easily. So I find it much easier with the e-ink. It's really not like reading on a device at all. And i read outside a lot. So no glare.

I also don't like the glare, but I read on my Kindles because I got them used...meaning cheap. ;)

Just put a tray of brownies in the oven, because, well, sometimes a day just calls for brownies.

Yum.

Ditto! ;D
