That was a sad story about Otmar von Schmichter.

And a great story about the story. ;)

I slept well until 4:00 when Stella created a ruckus.  She is a problem child.

DR TCB, I am so sorry the pain is so bad.  I have occasional days where I make loud utterances from the sharp pains but I have yet to scream.  I wish I could do something.

DR JohnG, thanks for the link to the Britten.  It's an opera, like Britten's three church parables, that I find hard to cozy up to.  On the other hand I find Peter Grimes, Albert Herring, Gloriana, Turn of the Screw, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and his version of The Beggar's Opera quite wonderful.

I have no plans today, so I believe the cats and I will revel in our slothdom and lazily lie about and do very little.

Last night, because I had wanted to see it in theatres and missed it, I watched Shazam, which I'd heard was a lot of fun.  After thirty minutes I turned it off.  I found it murky with too many openings and too much CGI, and by the time Zachary Levi, who was funny and charming, showed up as Captan Marvel I had had enough.  I read the new issue of Gramophone instead.

My favorite Von Schmicter film is THE MAJOR AND THE MINER about the young boy who pretends he is older so he can work with his father digging coal....most amusing.

The 2 things on my agenda for today are:

1) baking cinnamon pecan coffee cakes, 1 to eat and 2 to freeze, and
2) signing some DAR paperwork for a friend who will visit me in my front porch office this afternoon.

Stella, Thatch and I have been slothful, and I will return to my inertia as soon as I place and receive a grocery order.

I must be in a July 4 state of mind.  I'm thinking about hot dogs and baked beans for dinner and craving potato salad and cheeseburgers.

I'm craving potato salad, too. Been looking through cookbooks for a recipe I want to try. I'm picky though, about my potato salad. No Velveeta and mayo combinations (one recipe), no Miracle Whip (way too many Texas recipes), no canned peaches.

DR Elmore, we've had 3 of those 4 things already this week.  And we would have had the 4th if I'd remembered to order hot dogs from Kroger.  Tonight's a pizza night, I think.

I will confess, we bought the potato salad we ate this week.  It's one thing I've never made, mostly because I didn't want to compete with my mother, my mother-in-law, my sister, and my niece.  Now it's because it just seems like too much work.

We also bought the baked beans, but I do make my own from a recipe I've used since college days.
