Lawry's, hands down. And on the CORRECT side of the street, in the 70s and 80s. I was shocked when I learned that they were no longer in their proper building. That one was perfect, and was part of what made it so special -- not to mention, of course, the food and its presentation. I wonder if everyone remembers their first time there, who they were with, etc., because I sure do. And a few of the special occasions in the years following.
In those years I was so taken with the Lawry's "brand" as a representation of quality food that for years, Lawry's seasoned salt and seasoned pepper were staples in my kitchen.
I've been wracking my brain trying to remember where I'd eaten prime rib prior to living in LA, because I was certainly no stranger to it. Somehow I see it as more a thing experienced at catered dinners, business functions, that kind of thing. I'm 99% certain, though, that since living there I haven't had it once. And boy, am I ready.
