Good Afternoon.  Nothing much happening today.  Kids are back on campus, but our Distance Learning list is bigger. Mostly parents taking advantage of the situation, I'm sure.  Not the fear of getting infected.  Having a choice means they can go to school anywhere with an internet connection - which enables them to go their mountain or desert 2nd home, or go skiing in Wyoming.  I'm not bitter, no  - not me.

I'll be interested in elmore's opinion of Anyone Can Whistle.

I haven't had a chance to listen yet.  Yesterday was a good day, but I couldn't get my energy up to it.

I'll probably be reminded of others as the day goes on, but:

Drumsticks
Ice cream sandwiches
Chocolate covered vanilla bars
Fudgesicles, Creamsicles

Was (is) "King Cone" the name brand of a drumstick? That's the only one of these things I can recall having as an adult, and that type of thing would definitely be my favorite. I do still love good ice cream cones.

Chocolate covered bars are delicious, of course (I'm thinking modern day Dove Bars?), but they're so damned messy. Or I just never learned the proper technique.

ChasSmith, there is a proper technique to eating chocolate covered bars and to discover it, all it takes is practice...lots and lots of practice! ;)

I was tired enough to actually fall right to sleep last night.  Maybe I will get lucky and have a repeat performance ;)

From DR TCB:

It still boggles my mind, at the age of 70, how naive I was regarding so many things.  In particular, I can’t believe that growing up I was so unaware of anti-semitism.

Unless you had Jewish friends that talked about it, I can understand this.  I don't suppose you read or watched Gentleman's Agreement?

I am trying to think of other books I read, or movies I watched, that dealt with the subject in America.

Maybe now is the time to do so.

When I first began to learn what had happened in Germany I asked my father if any of his family had died.  I was fairly young and he didn't have the heart to tell me they all did. all but one that he knew of.  The real number was two survived.  My father told me no one died and I was too young to ask more questions.

Topic of the Day:  my favorite was the ChocoTaco.  I also really liked fudge bars, or some banana flavored thing that I don't remember what it specifically was...just that it was banana flavored. :)

I have no clue what this is ;D

The schools all close every September in honor of Ross Hashannah and Yom Kippur

It must be an age difference as our, mostly Jewish, schools stayed open.  Of course there weren't many students at school and homework was not given.

We had snow in Austin yesterday.

Our neighbor built a snow man.

My dog: He didn't know what to make if it.

There was a specific section of town where they lived.  In the mid 1980's when I was selling real estate i was told which blocks were "appropriate" for showing to various clients.

When I was in high school neighbors moved in across the street and we became close.  The wife was a fairly new realtor and asked me about the percentage of blacks in the school.  Since the Catholic kids, including her daughter, went to their schools, that left the public schools in our area with mostly Jewish kids, some Christians, and some Blacks.
shocked with clients that wanted to avoid the schools due to too many of one or the other group.  She ended up leaving that particular real estate office because they lied about the districts to the clients.  Today you cannot pretend a house is in a school district when it isn't.

We had an interesting discussion about it, and were also sorry it was needed.

I knew they mostly lived in one area but it had never occurred to me that it was because they were kept from living anywhere else.

I recall how shocking it was to learn that.

Today was telephone day.

I called the garage to tell them my car would be there at 12:30 p.m.

I called my oncologist's office to make my six-month check up appointment.....it will be January 26 at 12:30 p.m.

AND I called the Summers Heating & Cooling to tell them to STOP sending me invoices and to stop calling me because I was not interested in renewing my Service Plan.  I just said I couldn't afford it.  She was quite nice and told me I could pay it monthly and have it come out of my bank account $11.99 each time.  I decided not the try to explain to her that it was still the same money however it was paid......

;D

TOD - We had a Good Humor truck in our neighborhood and I loved the 2-stick popsicles that were different fruit flavors.  We'd yell "Waaaaiiiiit a second" when we wanted the driver to stop and until very late in her life my mother could mimic our chant perfectly.

:) ;D

The joys of chasing the Good Humor truck, almost as good as catching the Helms truck.
