I thought DRStuart's cast was so good, I stopped thinking about it.

Why, merci to you too!

Just pulled this off the internet. I was discussing this just the other day.

< Warner Home Video set to release two new remastered DVD editions of The Wizard of Oz. The two-disc set will contain plenty of extras and include a new digital transfer while the three-disc set boasts a new documentary on Oz author L. Frank Baum. >

Irritating in that OZ press release that there is NO mention if they're including John Fricke's outstanding running commentary taken from the laserdisc set. It hasn't been on ANY of the OZ DVD releases.

Yes, I will freely admit that DR Stuart's is very good, and I would never suggest that mine is better.  It's just...different. ;) I've made some "non-traditional" casting choices.  That's all. ;D

Well, I've heard from two London friends so far, but a few of them are probably working in the theatre tonight.  My goddaughter's in London right now on a Shakespeare program.  I'm waiting to hear how she is.

Okay, here it is:  My choices for a fantasy movie cast of Follies:
  • Sally: Judy Garland (although she's not exactly the right kind of singer)
  • Buddy: Mickey Rooney
  • Phyllis: Julie Andrews
  • Ben: Brian Stokes Mitchell (in his breakout movie role)
  • Roscoe: Stubby Kaye
  • Dimitri Weismann: either Stephen Sondheim or our very own BK ;)
  • Carlotta ("I'm Still Here"): Lena Horne
  • Solange ("Ah, Paris!"): Josephine Baker
  • Stella ("Who's That Woman?"): Penny Fuller
  • Hattie ("Broadway Baby"): Debbie Gravitte (in her breakout movie role)
  • The Whitmans ("Rain on the Roof"): Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor
  • Vincent and Vanessa ("Bolero d'Amour"): Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse
  • Heidi ("One More Kiss"): Beverly Sills
  • Young Heidi: Madeline Kahn (I debated about having Madeline Kahn as Sally, she definitely has the voice, but having Mickey Rooney as Buddy was the deciding factor...for me, at least, so I cast her as Young Heidi)
;D

I've had a report from Kim Criswell in London:

Dear All,

Yes, I do live very near both the Russell Square and King's Cross stations, but am on a quiet side street and can't see any evidence of chaos, at least not in my street.  I'm supposed to be doing a concert tonight in London---on a boat in the Thames---and am awaiting instructions as to whether it's going on or not.  It was supposed to be broadcast on BBC 3 and I have been informed that they have cancelled that part of it
(can't get the tech aspects pulled together in the chaos)---I imagine we will do whatever the West End theatres do regarding tonight's shows (they cancelled all the matinees, but are possibly going to go ahead tonight).  It all depends on what else happens, I guess.  The phone systems here (particularly mobiles) are seriously overstretched and not functioning all that well, so I thought it would be best to email anyone who might be worrying.  I am perfectly fine and expect to stay so . . .

Much love,
Kim (Criswell)

I've been sending text messages and emails to friends in London. I guess those of us who know London reasonably well have horrific pictures in our minds.

Thank you for passing on that Larry.

You're welcome; she also mentioned to me that my friends Alison Fox, formerly of EMI Records, and David Charles Abell are fine.  Alison had already emailed me, and director Martin connor also checked in.  I'm still waiting to hear from Ian Marshall Fisher, Jason Carr, trumpeter John Wallace and a few others.  Kim just sent this as well:

Have spoken to Mr. Abell and heard from Alison (both ok), so not to worry.  The entire west end is shut down, all shows and concerts cancelled, including mine (the transport system is still shut down, so no point in performing to empty houses).  So I'm home drinking beer watching TV, like all the other white trash.
Ain't this modern world great?
Much love, thanks for worrying,
Kim

The UPS guy just delivered!

"Georgy Girl" is here, and it's not only anamorphic widescreen BUT it was remastered in High Definition.

That will be good news for Matt H.

I've read that Amazon.com was going to be surprising a few customers by having various ordered items delivered in person by the artists who created them.

I guess that means John Williams might deliver an OST CD to "The War of the Worlds";

I had hoped Lynn Redgrave might pop in with my DVD...just for grins, but I'll take it via UPS.

If someone has been "expecting" something that is now overdue, it "may be" that someone connected with the item will be "personally delivering" it to you.

What are the chances, though, that anyone "we" know will be a lucky customer???

I'm sure Lynn, who's a lovely lady, would be happy to deliver your DVD; however, she is tied up now with the comedy THE CONSTANT WIFE.

Ha! Well, I did spend Pride Week in the Bay Area.

Alas, the pride alluded to above was from the honor of being called sick by the Grand Master.

Years ago one of my Radio Announcing friends introduced The Hollies song as "Long Cool woman In A Black Frock". It said more about the announcer than the artist. (But he had a great Radio voice!)
