This is what I've just found on THE BETTY HUTTON SHOW site:
"In 1993 Betty revealed she had Epstein-Barr syndrome, the disease which leaves one feeling tired and drained of energy, an ironic ailment for her. And as a devastating blow, in 1996, the reverend Father Peter McGuire died.
Betty Hutton had lived in Rhode Island 25 years and spent them working to help despairing church members with her experience and with the help of her friend Father McGuire by her side. After the death of the Reverend, Betty’s friend and songwriter Jay Livingston suggested she return to California. Betty moved back to the sunny state wanting to be close to her daughters again with aspirations of becoming a lecturer at Universities around Southern California. And in 2000, Betty did a fascinating intimate interview on Turner Classic Movies’ “Private Screenings with Robert Osborne”. This amazing one-hour interview is a goldmine of information and a treasure of love and appreciation.
In November 2000, Annie Get Your Gun, Berlin’s Musical wonder, was finally released on video after having been restricted from public viewing since 1978. According to modern sources, Irving Berlin, who retained the music rights, refused to allow the picture to be shown commercially. But now, Betty is shown in full digital color, singing splendidly "You can't get a man with a gun!" for all the new generations to enjoy.
As for Hutton, 80, she was last located in Palm Springs, California and gave a small interview in the July 2000 issue of TV Guide. Surprised at the attention surrounding her stupendous appearance on Turner Classic Movies, and of the applause given her by the crew on the “Private Screenings” set, Betty responded brightly:
“Oh my God, maybe they think I’m somebody else! God is so good to me, sweetheart, he really is.”
Bless her heart!
