"Scission" is a book of short stories by Australian writer Tim Winton.  Highly recommended.

The most exotic of pets that I've ever had was when my dad was in the army and we (dad, mom, sister and I) were living in Germany (when I was 4-6 years old).  My sister and I had a turtle named Herman.  We fed him dandelion leaves.  That's all that I can remember about him (her?  We just assumed that the turtle was a he).  I don't even remember how we got him or what happened to him when we moved back to the States.  Oh, well.

Now, I must go to bed and get up early in the morning, so that I can get to work early in the morning and do parts of my boss' job because he's not here to do them because had to take vacation to get married to his wife...again. ;)

All alone here with nary an exotic pet in sight. All we ever had were doggies. We did have some standard issue Woolworth goldfish but I think that's about as exotic it ever got. We were exotic enough with anywhere from 4 to 7 children, two adults, and dogs.

I'm looking forward to "Stages"-- Congrats on the great work.

The most exotic pet I had was a newt named "Cadeau."  I got him when I was about 12, and I later took him over to my aunt's house to live with another newt.  Cadeau lived to be around 6 years, I think.  Cute little guy with his little red boutoniere.

Work yesterday was very strange.  After I got home, I had dinner, went and did yoga with a friend and came home to take Sugar for a walk.  She liked it, but it was still 103 degrees at 9:30 PM, and I was quite glad to get home.

Off to another fun-filled day at work.

'morning...it's looking like a potential "Dilbert Day" here at work.

It was so nice to see a post from DR ozderek - best wishes to you!

TOD:  for DS Rob's 11th birthday (1996) we brought a sweet parakeet into our home.  This was during Rob's Stargate-inspired Egyptian phase, so the bird was named "Horus, the Egyptian Falcon God" - a pretty ferocious name for such a tiny creature.  He lived in our sunny breakfast room and was like a member of the family until he became ill and died, cradled in Rob's hands, on Easter Sunday 2002.  That was my one and only pet experience and it broke my heart.  Never again.

TOD:  I guess the most exotic pet I ever had was a rabbit named Bandit.  He liked to chew on the hair on my head.  I liked the smell of his rabbit food pellets.  For a time, it was a match made in Heaven.
