I was, as I sometimes do, perusing the first edition category on eBay. I have never seen such a bunch of crooked sellers in my life, and the fact that eBay lets this stuff happen is shameless. My favorite was a first edition of Mickey Spillane's I, the Jury, which in fine condition, might fetch six or seven hundred bucks, maybe a bit more. This copy is in VG condition but is signed and has an opening bid of 750 and a buy it now for 1000. However, when you read the description what do you find out? That the dust jacket is a Xerox facsimile, which, in plain terms, means that this book is just about worthless - maybe fifty bucks because it's signed.
