Tom--maybe the thieves just really did have very good taste in music.  Perhaps they had heard the music coming from your house, and said, "The hell with Borders.  Let's go after HIS Sondheim collection."

I shouldn't make light of it though.  I hope they didn't steal anything else from you!

Emily--Please lemme know how MLWA is!  I keep meaning to buy it.

That Ricky Ian Gordon is certainly ambitious.  I keep waiting for him to musicalize "Ulysses."

I like the Lansbury GYPSY very much indeed, but she does run out of gas in "Rose's Turn." And the alternate notes she has to take in "Together" are also jarring. Apart from that, I find it very well done.

Favorite food: Southern fried chicken. Favorite veggie: broccoli.
Least favorite food: liver. Least favorite veggie: beets.

Wearing: gray sweatpants, burgundy sweatshirt with THE DRESSER logo on front.

DR Ron: fabulous imitation of BK's writing style. I was jiggy with laughter.

Oh, yes, THE HAPPY TIME. I adored this musical, and I think it got the shaft from the critics. It was in the wrong theater (the humongous Broadway) instead of the Music Box or something possibly even smaller. The stories about Merrick holding the curtain for the Times critic and that angering the others and their taking it out on the show seems VERY plausible to me.

Goulet was stunning to look at, a real star presence with a voice that could thrill and seduce, and Michael Rupert was so charming as Bibi. David Wayne was a joy, kind of the John McMartin of that period of his career. All in all, a show as charming and special in its own way as SHE LOVES ME was in its time.

I don't know from BALLROOM (other than hearing Ms. Loudon's number(s) on MY FAVORITE BROADWAY) or THE HAPPY TIME. :-\

TFO:  I think you can take great satisfaction from the idea that IF the thief wasn't cultured when he stole your Sondheim CDs, he would probably gain some culture if he actually listened to them.

I don't know what kind of re-sale street value they'd have where "he" does his business.

I had some CDs stolen in Italy....oddly, the first Vanilla Ice CD was left sitting where it was, while my Barbara Cook "Disney Album" was taken.

Do you suppose my Italian burglar had a clue?

Damn just lost my post when I hit the wrong button.
DR Maya. The thieves also took my Cds with artists beginning with A & B and also TVs, video etc. My insurance company was excellent an allowed me to replace the Cds from my store of choice - there are few retailers here that would have heard of Sondheim.

A decade ago I had all my Sondheim related CDs stolen from the house - not really discerning thieves as the Cds were all on the top shelf! I did not bother replacing the Tyne Daly "Gypsy". I was unable at the time to replace the RCA Sondheim set with the disco version of "The Ballad Of Sweeney Todd" but at least I had it on record. That should be in everyone's collection.

Ozzie:  I am never sure if your tongue is in your cheek, or ............ elsewhere.  The disco Sweeney Todd?

Gee, TFO!  I know what you mean about living in a place where folks aren't likely to have a clue who various idols of ours are.

But then you never know until you draw them out.

Of course, you don't want to draw them out too far or you'll find yourself fly fishing somewhere when you'd rather be taking in a concert.

Oh, the sacrifices...and then when you try to interest someone you think might enjoy the same things, you get total ennui from them.

My CDs would have ended up at a "flea market" and were no doubt sold for $5 or less. I checked with all the second hand music stores around (I know many of them - surprise!) but there was no sign of my "specialist" collecetion. I did find a very inexpensive Barbara Cook Disney album with a scent of Italy. I wondered why and whence it had traveled.

I don't supposed you "rescued" said Barbara Cook CD, did you?

It was very special to me, as it had been sent to me for my birthday!

I replaced it immediately, of course.  But there was such sentiment attached....

No TCB, Tom is exactly right. There is/was a disco version of "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd." Just awful to my ears, but it does exist.

Was going to post something now but Bear won't leave me ALONE--let me take the dogs for a walk and then I'll  be right back!

Dogs!  Gotta love'em.

All this talk about "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" has left me with a hankerin' to revisit the film.

Anyone else have a hankerin' for something special today?

I'm afraid it's time I got more obnoxious than usual.  I'm too close for comfort, that's what it is.

Too close, and it's driving me crazy!

I know many of you are as curious as I am about what will happen.

What if NOTHING happens.  I've been down that merry little road of deceit and sorrow before.

But it's always a relief to simply move on past it.  Get on with one's life and all that sort of thing.

But, yes.  I'm too close.

Jason's back from doing his laundry.

The laundry must not have been very busy for him to have gotten back so soon.

I could make an unseemly comment, but I won't.

No, it's not like me.

I won't do it.

Ah, the heck I won't.

Did you come back all fluffed and folded???

TCB. I shall of course make sure that you do indeed listen to the Sweeney gem. Be prepared! (I am sure other star turns like Liza losing her mind would fit well with it)
Ron: May indeed watch "Midnight" myself tonight. The added incentive of Mr suave Spacey  should get me there.

Yes, DR Ron, it was a wonderful dinner with a lot of nice guys. Enjoyed myself thoroughly. We then watched TERMINATOR 3 which was certainly loud enough to impress those at the house who don't have their own home theaters.

I had a nice roast chicken for dinner.  I finished watching JRand's tape, and then watched "Trading Spaces" -- toile!!! UGH!

And finally finished watching "The Stunt Man" in glorious DTS sound.  What a fabulous film!  And great performances all around.
