"Aquarius" from Mort Garson's album "Electronic Hair Pieces".

I have to admit I was surprised by the dour tone of LaChuisa's piece. Honestly, the Broadway community is a fairly small entity in the great scheme of things, and when one member makes such a public spectacle of himself, it seems to jolt the theater community to its core.

Are any of the theater big shots defending LaChuisa?

DR elmore - I'd love a copy of Marc Shaiman's final rebuttal.  -If you haven't sent it to me already.

I agree with that. I found MARIE CHRISTINE a trial to sit through.

Me, too, Larry...I read it on All That Chat a few days ago, but I'd like to re-read it now that I've read MJL's article.

Thanks!

And when I return from lunch, I must see what the mailman has brought. I'm hoping a package arrives today. If not, more THIN MAN.

I wasn't up here when the show was running, but I don't think I've EVER been able to listen to the recording all the way through. It bores me.

Same for his WILD PARTY. Though I do enjoy Andrew's version...

Maybe he wrote what he did so that the opera folks will commision him to write something...? He needs the work.

I had to put MARIE CHRISTINE together for Rodgers & Hammerstein to lease.  I like it a bit better than WILD PARTY, but I'm not a fan of his music.

I think LaChiusa's article was written from bowls of sour grapes.  The entire piece reeks of envy.

It has some familiar overtones....

I suspect it's jealousy that the HAIRSPRAY/PRODUCERS weekly royalty is larger than the total he's made on his shows.

DR Matt H - From your mouth to someone powerful's ears.

Interestingly, and accidentally, the timing happens to fall on the day that the NY Times (in a review of that one-man Star Wars show) proclaimed that "The geek audience has become highly sought after by Broadway producers."  Is there any evidence of this, I wonder?  Our hero isn't necessarily written geeky, but I wouldn't object if there's any way LAST STARFIGHTER can get into any "highly sought after" category.  :)

:P

I meant to post some of these pics last night... and since there's no time like the present...

Here are some pics from the Pizza and Dance Party that the creators of the show held for the Act One Company members last night...

Up first, our director, Carlos, and Jenny, one of our fabulous actresses:

Thanks, Larry, for the link and the rebuttal.

I visited a few other articles and what seems clear is that MJLC and Opera News seem to be having a love affair.

I know some opera lovers who find the "world" of opera lovers quite tasking and opinionated and very narrowminded when it comes to other forms of music.

That they've even embraced someone from the "musical the-ay-ter" seems odd, although MJLC's works don't seem to have met with much sucess "commercially."

I'm up, I'm up, and must now hurry and pick up the Harvey Schmidt CD for proofing whilst I drive to LACC for a meeting.

I'll get to as many questions as I can right now.

Publisher call was easy and effortless and I should see a galley in a couple of days, and have a cover to proof soon thereafter, so we're on track for end of September.

I, too, think Marc was right to do what he did.

elmore, call him back and tell him to POST HIS REBUTTAL here, the finest site on all the Internet.  And then tell him I'm looking for material for the Trotter album and to call me.

...and that was "molded salads" not "moldy salads"...

Although, I guess if a salad had mold on it, it could be considered "molded"...

Hmmm...

Discuss...

Will you be recording a cast album of What If?

Do any of the theaters that you have looked at allow an open run or they only allow a booking for a specific time?

Do you have a pictures you can post from Kevin's cabaret show?

What was his song list?

Any plans to record a solo album with him?

Any chance of re-releasing The Music of Bruce Kimmel and updating it with other original songs?

What If: Complicated issue - but we're working on it.

Most waiver theaters don't do open-ended runs, only a couple.  The problem with the Hudson when we did What If was that they'd already booked a show in prior to us booking the theater, so we were screwed.  When we talked to them about our play, the went to Mr. Daniel Henning, who is doing La Chiusa's The Wild Party and told him we wanted the theater, and asked him to extend or not.  He kept them (and us) waiting beyond the date he should have and then, as I predicted, took the extension.  Well, I've seen Mr. La Chiusa's Wild Party.  These people are doing a six show week, and will now be in there for twelve weeks or so - good luck.  Although, LA sometimes embraces these pedantic and pretentious shows that NY loathes, so who knows what will happen.

I don't know if anyone was taking photographs of Kevin's show.  I'll ask him.

I'll have to post his song list later, if I can remember it.

Yes, we'll be doing a live recording of his act before the end of the year.

I doubt I'll rerelease The Music of Bruce Kimmel, since so much of it would have to be new.
