Adding our birthday boy to the notes as we speak.  That's what happens when you are the mad typer.

"Nothing PORTENTOUS or polite"

-Which usually gets "pronounced" as "PORTENTIOUS" or even "PRETENTIOUS".  Whenever someone brings "Comedy Tonight" in for an audition, they get major brownie points if they actually get the word right.  And even more points if they know what it means.

Jose, I have also seen so many performances of the song "Comedy Tonight" where they sing "portentious," and much more often than "pretentious."  About 10 years ago, I played Hero in a local production and the guy playing Pseudolus pronounced it that way, too.  I tried correcting him frequently (but courteously...a 1776 reference) but he never got it right.  How difficult can it really be??

As for the Topic O' De Day...

Hmm.. The only movies that come to mind right now are:

Paul Newman - "Cool Hand Luke" - that egg scene is just burned into my memory.  -Was that the movie with the egg scene?
Robert Redford - "The Natural".  I remember how many people - mainly women - would mention "that smile" that Redford dons in that movie.  Swooning galore.

More to come later as I'm sure my memory will be "refreshed" throughout the day.

And now for some more pictures...  YEAH!  Aren't you excited?

;)

Well... In any case...

Once we departed Wiliamstown, MA, we headed north on 7 to Bennington, VT.  It was in Bennington that we had a truly wonderful breakfast at the Blue Benn Diner.  Chicken Fried Steak, Corned Beef Hash, Italian Omelet, Gingerbread Pancakes, etc.  Unfortunately, we ended up with a pretty ornery waitress.  We're still not really what we "did" to deserve such discourteous service.  We think she was upset that another waitress had taken our drink orders before she got to us.  Or something like that.  Alas, I believe DR Rodzinski left an "appropriate" tip for her.

After breakfast, we trekked further north on 7A in search of this...

The main selling point of the place are chocolate molds.  The woman who owns The Chocolate Barn has been collecting chocolate molds in all shapes and sizes (and prices) for years.  You can buy the molds there, and/or buy chocolates made from those molds.  There's also a nice selection of hand-dipped chocolates and other sweets.  Oh, and fudge too!

And now for a close up of the main - and only - entrance...

;)

Once inside, there was Howard and a friend - might have even been his son - telling you about his art and paintings.  Just lots of canvases stacked one in front of the other.  Religious icons, reproductions of other paintings, painted versions of famous photographs...  Interesting to say the least.  DR Rodzinski inquired about a painting, but he just didn't have enough funds on him at the time to make the purchase.  -Yeah, that's the ticket.

After our stop at the art museum, we started making our way back south to New York City.  We stopped here and there, depending what caught our eye along the way.  A flea market...  a Mexican restaurant...  a motorcycle rider with really nice eyes (just ask DR Rodzinksi) who was doing wheelies for us...  The usual stuff.

;)

One of the places we stopped at was a Petting Zoo that was in Pittsfield, MA, I believe.  It was right behind the Store at Five Corners.

There were lots of cute animals, and there was one area where they had some kittens and ferrets (in hammocks!).  And one of the kittens was being offered for free to potential owners.  Here's DR TPunk trying to make her case for a Walty, Jr.

Happy B-day, TCB!

BK, how weird...though I didn't even try to fathom the answers to your trivia quiz, I was perusing the very Theatre World that you must have culled your questions from...I remember coming across all those plays...Jane and Dean and Joey et al.

Favourite Paul Newman movies:

The Long Hot Summer
The Left-handed Gun
Nobody's Fool
The Hustler
The Sting
Harper
Judge Roy Bean

I also remember being very fond of FROM THE TERRACE & THE YOUNG PHILADELPHIANS, though I remember little about either.

Fav Robert Redford's:

The Sting
Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid
Jeremiah Johnson
The Chase

And I remember being fond of TELL 'EM WILLIE BOY IS HERE and THIS PROPERTY IS CONDEMNED, though again I remember little about them.

I shall now try to finish reading Sunday's posts.

Today's Notes Title reminds me of the comment that Truman Capote made about Jack Kerouac, something to the effect of "That's not writing, that's typing."

On that note (C#) I shall leave this part of the HHW World.

Hello, Dear Larry.

Good morning, all!  DRBen, I just missed you.

Back to Toyland today!  I have to leave shortly for 14th Street via Citibank to deposit yesterday's check.

DRPogue, some of the songs on those CDs are wonderful:  "I Wanna Get Married" is one of my favorites, and I was proud of my arrangements for "Good Morning Glory" and "Gather Lip Rouge While You May."[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]
DR TCB!  HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS!

Paul Newman films:
  The Silver Chalice (just kidding!)
  The Long Hot summer
  Sweet Bird of Youth
  Slap Shot
  Buffalo Bill and the Indians
Robert Redford:
  Barefoot in the Park
  Jeremiah Johnson
  Butch Cassidy
  All the President's Men
  The Great Gatsby
