But it started just after I got in the car and ended just before I had to get out

I like that kind of timing.

Or maybe if Cher had married Nicolas Cage and Chastity took his last name?

JohnG - I hate characters who abuse like that - as you say, it was necessary. I've played the soundtrack four times already. It's very clear that the director temp-tracked that particular plot line with Bernard Herrmann music.

I wonder why I can read it — it’s all over my 19th century novels — but I just don’t want to watch it.

And then for the son to behave so poorly to her broke my heart.

I guess I blew it last week. I was at the Bedford Playhouse for a brief time to do something for them, and in turn they invited me to stay and watch that French movie from France which was about to begin. It sounded worthwhile, but I wasn't quite in the mood to sit for a movie (this was around noon on a gorgeous day) and I felt I needed to be on my way to do some other things - which really could have been done much later in the day. Now of course it's not playing in a theeder, and I wish I'd done that.

Amazon thinks I need a chastity cage. Um, no. Thank you. No thank you.

If Chastity Bono had married Nicolas Cage ...  (there's a "Moonstruck" shtick somewhere in that)

Friday afternoon greetings!  It’s been a quiet week for us as Richard recovers from his nasty cold.  Knock wood, so far I’ve managed to stay healthy.

I got an email from IU; SWEENEY TODD cannot be shown per contract with MTI.

I’m not surprised, but disappointed.  It would have been fun to watch “together” like we did with the ballet.

TOD:

I’m getting back Hitchcock after about a month off. Tonight it’s The Wrong Man, then maybe Suspicion.

Have you watched Juno and the Paycock? I love the play.

Laundry took forever, but it's finished and put away. One of the cats - I suspect Stella since she's prone to diarrhea - either vomited or shat on the bathroom rug this afternoon, so I have more laundry on Sunday or Monday.

DR Laura - perhaps these would be appropriate for an art-themed event?

I enjoyed Opening Night a lot! It was a pretty faithful adaptation of the movie, using the songs to deepen the emotions of the characters.

After saying I would be one of the few Americans to see this, I sat next to a Rufus Wainwright superfan who flew in from Chicago just to see this show. He loved it!

So interesting!  What a good thing for you that your London trip is before it closes!

My one quibble was the ending, which changed the tone from musical drama to musical comedy. It's not as clear as in the movie that they are ad-libbing the whole scene, with the playwright smiling throughout. And then they tack a musical comedy number onto the curtain call. Maybe this is supposed to represent Myrtle's delusions. Or maybe preview audiences found the original ending too dark, so they tried to lighten it up?

Most of the dialog came straight from the movie.

DR singdaw, the trumpet on "You Gotta Get a Gimmick" sounds like Alison Balsom compared to the poor bugler at Windsor Castle.

I saw it years ago. It’s not very good. I would like to find a decent copy. I don’t own it.

After an extremely unhelpful interaction with a customer service agent earlier this week, I went there. I typed, "Thanks for nothing."

And then, of course, there is the song "Nothing" from A Chorus Line.
