Does anyone know a 1964 film Gonks Go Beat? It's a British beat musical version of Romeo and Juliet. Here's a taste.

I just saw on Amazon the city of Pensacola misspelled as Peniscola, which is a drink of a different sort.

Hope to hear from DR Ron Pulliam today.

How very sweet!

My colonoscopy went well.  The Surgical Center was very busy, and I probably had a 40-minute wait until an OR was available for my procedure.  The staff were extremely engaging and accommodating, and I was out of there by 9:20 a.m. (reported at 6:30 a.m.).  Seven polyps were removed !!!  Still, I was told I don't need another procedure for three years.

For the entire day, I was groggy from the anesthesia they had administered.   That did NOT stop me from driving up the street to get food at lunch time.  Meat loaf, green beans and squash casserole.  I devoured it after having had three days of near-famine.

Yes, that's an exaggeration.  But I had not been allowed veggies or red meat, so the lunch was almost inhaled.

The rest of the day is a blur.  I napped, I watched TV, and for the life of me, I couldn't get too interested in anyhthing beyond a few minutes (a least in the arly afternoon).

I started watching a Peter Bodganovich film called "The Cat's Meow".  An interesting premise with a sterling cast, some of whom were miscast, IMO, but I found I could not sustain interest beyond about 40 minutes.

Last night, I had a couple of White Castle hamburgers.  Deliciously inhaled.

And for some reason, I began to watch "Ordinary People", a film I had admired in the theater when it was first released.

Amazingly, the film offered much more resonance for me than my previous viewing.  I was devastated and in tears.

Timothy Hutton was brilliant.  Donald Sutherland was superb (and should have received an Oscar nomination.  Among most of his contemporaries, Sutherland was supremely consistent and engaging but taken for granted, IMO).

Robert Redford's master stroke was casting Mary Tyler Moore as Beth.  It's an amazing performance.  But...why didn't she win the Oscar for which she was so rightfully nominated?  Her character is wholly unsympathetic, that's why.  Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.  Without her performance, those of her co-stars would not have been as powerful or resonant.

Ah, well.

And that's all I have to say about yesterday.

Today, this afternoon, I return to The Eye Guys and Dr. Gardner, to have my two-week post-op checkup on my right eye. In nine days, I have the second surgery for my left eye.  I cannot wait!!

TOD:

I don't know what my first ice cream bar was.  I remember loving ice cream sandwiches, but preferred ice cream cones and popsicles.  Loved grape and orange popsicles.  I loved cherry flavored ones, but could seldom find them.

Nowadays, I buy boxes of "Fat Boy" ice cream sandwiches at Sam's Club.  They are delicious, very thick and quite filling.

Ice cream has always been a part of my life I loved the sweet sweet sweet flavors when I was a kid. Our dog Rocky was named after Rocky Road.

I have always been a sucker for an ice cream sandwich. In addition to the traditional rectangular chocolate cookie and vanilla ice cream, I like the lemon cookie/vanilla combo.

I also like to take store-bought cookies and make my own. Soften the chocolate ice cream a little, scoop it between two white chocolate ship cookies and roll the edges in chopped nuts. Refreeze. Repeat using different flavors and cookies.

The Mexican ice cream parlors around me always make their own flavors, such as gansito (a strawberry jam-filled cake) and rompopo (eggnog). They always have a pink pine nut flavor that I love and guava, though the seeds can be a bit much at times. The coffee is more like a cafe con leche, also a favorite.

I am taking my friend Jerry for a birthday lunch today.

He has chosen El Rodeo for the event.

We used to always go to O'Charley's.....but since they closed, we stopped going there.

I was asking about the pictures, because I finally read a newspaper account of the October 19, 1942, traffic stop that started all of the trouble for Frances Farmer.

She was stopped at Pico Blvd. and 16th St.

Imagine my surprise to see that at one corner of that intersection is Woodlawn Cemetery......it's my guess that the policeman were waiting on 14th Street in front of the Cemetery....

I am adding an opening scene to my play so that we get to see the title actress in the beginning.....

So now of course it will be titled Four Arrests of Frances Farmer which has a nice alliterative lilt to it.

Isn't there a song in HAIR that goes "Fat Boys are Delicious" - or maybe something close to that?

I'm up, I'm up - four hours of not enough sleep. I got up at six-thirty and went back to bed at seven-fifteen, but due to a severe case of ABS (Active Brain Syndrome), I could not fall back asleep. Damn them, damn them all to hell.

When the Good Humor man would come through the neighborhood I'd sometimes do Fudgesicles but didn't care for them, but I did like the Creamsicle.

There are multiple videos on YouTube. I will watch more later. It's not very highly regarded.

From The Good Humor Ice Cream truck, my favorites when it came around in my youth were the chip candy crunch bar and the chocolate eclair bar.
