Anyway.....I am sure the DRHISAKA appreciated your playing host to her visit to a FOREIGN country, and I can't imagine a nicer LA tour guide.

DR CP you are correct OUT OF THE PAST is a very good Mitchum movie, but Jane Greer is not a passion of mine the way Jane Russell or even Lizabeth Scott can be.  Remember Liz and Mary Astor as mother and daughter in DESERT FURY?

Lovely theme song to Night of the Lepus, however, MR BK, I think that it should be sung by Kenny Miller!

TOTD "The Andromeda Strain"

Oooo...I loved this movie. ;D Also, "Godzilla."  I've only seen the version with Raymond Burr and I didn't care at all for the Matthew Broderick remake.  The story was just dumb. :P

There are others, but I can't think of any at 1:07 a.m. PDT.  Maybe later.

Oh, my this here site has been exceedingly difficult to access this morning. Just going from page to page to read the posts has taken many minutes and I got the "too many connections" error at one point (I'm the only person here right now!) and I also got "page cannot be displayed" a couple of times.

Oh, well. I'm here. Me thinks it will be a slow news day at HHW what with Mr. BK off on business and half of our posters wandering around Manhattan getting an education in food and New York history.

In spite of the fun planned for today, I still have to work. Bye for now.

I'm up!   I'm up!  In fact, I've BEEN up since 6:30 AM but I could NOT get on the board.  I finely came down to the business center because I didn't know if it was the internet connection of the hotel or the board itself.

I haven't seen anyone else up and about as of yet.

I am SOOOO looking forward to today.  I just wish there was a way that we could ALL be here.

Gotta scoot--

I'll be in the breakfast room if anyone is looking for me.  At eight or so we are all (that is if DR Jane gets up) heading over to the meeting place.

I have my PDA and wi fi card.  I shall attempt to post along the way,  if the board will let me on.

This is Danise Hegerty, reporting LIVE and IN PERSON in NYC!!!   ;D

Laters all!

Roving correspondents and everything! It will be quite a day in lower Manhattan.

Things seem to be a little better getting on board.

Good Morning Jose.

No sign of our late night/early morning friends Larry and Tom. Perhaps they were here and gone already. Perhaps they had trouble getting on.

;)

And on that note, I must ready myself to head down to Rockefeller Center.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

I was thinking of Food of The Gods which I think was a Bert Gordon film. Among the large creatures were killer rats and WASPS (not the human kind).

Hi Jose and everybody -

Looking forward to having as many of the group as want to come over for happy hour (5-to 6-ish, right?) and a rest from your wanderings!  There'll be really good food (mostly not kosher, despite the holiday) and drink - Skip makes a great host, I'm only OK, but Skip makes up for that.  :)

Could you guys give me a half-hour (or 20-minute) warning before you guys get here?  And please let me know at that point approx. how many people it will be so that we can let the "guard" downstairs know in advance.

It's Manhattan Plaza, home to many many stars of stage, stage and screen, but you WON'T be seeing any of them (unless they happen to be in the lobby),  just little old us.

And anyone not doing the walking tour (Elmore?  Ben?  Anyone else?) you're of course welcome to stop by also.  If you can come and need directions, my AOL address is dylan43rd.

See you laters,
Fred

Good morning, all!  With DRMBarnum out of my hair, I mean visiting the wonderful TPunk and Rodzniski, I slept a bit late this morning.  I've got a day of personal business here in the apartment, so Chicago Humanities Festival, Ms Leslei Uggams, and Toyland are on hold today.

DRDanise, I think it's great we'll have a reporter on the case today.

DRCharlesPogue, I too prefer Mr Mitchum to Ms Garbo; my favorite film is NIGHT OF THE HUNTER, which seems apropos for a giant rabbit day.

TOD:  TARANTULA
         THEM!
         THE DEADLY MANTIS
         EARTH VS THE SPIDER
         THE GIANT CLAW

Topic of the day:  Hands down, ALLIGATOR, about an alligator that mutated after being flushed down the toilet and entering the city's toxic sewer system.  A really good movie, though, so maybe it doesn't qualify.  I think someone had posted the art work from it a few weeks ago.

I like some of Miss Garbo's films and I like some of Mr. Mitchum's films. There is no need to choose, at least not for me.

Favorite Garbo - ANNA KARENINA

Favorite Mitchum - NIGHT OF THE HUNTER

Good morning!

It is a very overcast day here, but I can once again feel the humidity building as the temp rises toward 80. However, there is supposed to be a steady dropping of highs and lows by the weekend, so fall seems definitely to be here.

I did take my walk this morning, and the breeze that is present offset some of the humidity in the air.

In a little while (a ONCE UPON A MATTRESS reference), I must get cleaned up for my DVD shopping excursion.

On the topic of the day, I think I've mentioned many times that TARANTULA! is unquestionably my favorite giant bug movie. I think THEM! is probably a better film, and both of them scared the daylights out of me as a kid, but now, if I'm going to watch a giant bug movie, I pull out the videotape of TARANTULA!

Hey, Universal! how about putting this out on DVD!

Okay, now that DRMBarnum is out of here, I have to begin fumigating - spoo, laundry!

BTW, DRMBarnum seems to have left a pair of underwear behind, so I'm happy to send the briefs to the highest bidder.  If the bids are too low, I'll give them to DRJose for Christmas.

Would THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN fit into this genre?

The spider and house cat DO become giant creatures once he starts to shrink!

That's another film that NEEDS to be on DVD!
