TOD: Part II

How could I forget  The Daily Show with Jon Stewart

and yes Tom Lehr

Danise and I "treated" the Vixter to  abbreviated versions of "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park" and  "I Hold Your Hand in My Hand" while stolling through Central Park a week ago today

and what a difference  week makes... all you out of towners came the right week.. it has been  miserable grey, cloudy and drizzling since Friday and the forecast is  for the same through this Friday... it's as if the city itself is mourning the end of the HHW "Convention"

I am also sorry to hear of the passing of your friend, Elmore. Sounds like he had a long and fulfilling life.

It is a glorious day today. I do believe we have had our change of season and it is currently "not summer."

Maybe I will go to the zoo today.

And then you can go to the park and sit next to someone on a bench and say, "I've been to the zoo."

Just caught up.

Dear elmore, I am very sorry for your loss.... 93 seems like a very great age, but we all know it still is too little time when you lose someone you love

Hugs....

Cillaliz, I laughed out loud when I saw you had taken a  picture of Danise, The Vixter and myself going into  the Leaping Frog for lunch!  (So much for covert site cruising at the office!)

Good morning!

Another cool, overcast, and wet morning. It rained just before I got up, so everything's very damp and soggy from the five days of rain we've had. None of the rain has been really heavy, so flooding has not been a problem, and it's good it's been like that so the ground could soak up the much needed moisture.

But enough already with the rain!

TOD:

Yes, MAD Magazine was always a favorite. I was introduced to it with their WEST SIDE STORY parody "East Side Story," and fell in love with it ever since. With their movie and TV parodies, often using songs from musicals that you could sing along with to their new lyrics, I never tired of them.

Monty Python's Flying Circus became my favorite satirical show as an adult.

ROCKY & BULLWINKLE as a child fulfilled a similar role in laughing at government and TV and many other things.

Yes, thanks for mentioning ROWAN AND MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN. The Smothers Brothers also began using satire in their act a lot more as the 60s progressed.

I only have MEDIUM from last night to watch today, so I should be able to squeeze in a movie, and I've selected it:

the original SHAFT. I've never seen this all the way through, so it should be fun and a great step back into the past.

VCR/DVR alert:

TOnight Robert Osborne interviews Sidney Lumet on TCM in a "Private Screenings" session. As I think he's a remarkable director, I'm looking forward to watching this at 8 p.m. EDT. (It's repeated at 11 p.m.)

Luckily, my regular 8 p.m. network show is an hiatus due to the baseball playoffs.

Yes, The Onion (founded in li'l ol' Madison, WI by friends of DS Betsy, who went to school there) is hilarious.  My all-time favorite Onion headline:  Tipper Gore jerks arhythmically at inaugural ball.  Betsy has given me Onion compilation books for the holidays on several occasions and they never fail to make me LOL.

How about That Was the Week That Was.  I think I freaked Amanda Green out once when I told her what a crush I had on Phyllis Newman when I was about 5.   ;D

I remember THAT WAS THE WEEK THAT WAS mainly because of the theme song. My parents watched the show, but I think I just found it over my head.

Yesterday morning I left my hotel at 6:00.  Twenty-five minutes later I was at the airport.  All went well until I arrived at the Denver airport which was experiencing an early snow storm.  I finally returned home at 10:30PM feeling very fortunate not to be in a hotel in Denver or San Francisco like so many others were.

I will try and catch up later today.

Just a little heads up for DVD collectors.

Deep Discount and DVD Empire are both having sales right now.

Deep Discount is a Buy 2 - Get 1 free sale chosen from a list of selected DVDs. I glanced at the list, and they look like the same discs they offered for sale this past summer.

DVD Empire's sale is on 90 horror-themed DVDs: Buy two for $14.95. I found 4 that I wanted and didn't already have, and if you buy 3, you get free shipping.

Just wanted to keep folks informed. I am not a shill for either company.  :)

I watched MEDIUM last night (i'll be vague), and it was another fresh episode.  I like how they are continually trying new things this season.

Last night's episode was sort of "scary" again (in that i couldn't figure out where it was heading).

The only thing that has been sort of bothering me is how the story is nowhere near its conclusion by 9:50pm.  They show a last commercial and then they keep having to wrap it up so quickly.  I wish that maybe they would give us less mystery and more conclusion. Because every time I see that last commercial break I wonder how on earth they will conclude in the few minutes that are left.

MadTV for sure.  Forgot about it until it was mentioned by another DR.

That wasn't a preview DR DtM - it was more like a warning!  :)

It looks like there is a US equivalent to the Kraft Canada magazine I receive for free every few months.

I thought some of you might like to receive it. I think it may even be the exact same magazine.  It is really fantastic and I use them all the time.

Click on the "sign up for free subscription" button near the bottom left.  They really do send it for free.

And I just checked, it IS the same magazine I have been getting from Kraft Canada.  So I would definitely recommend it even if you are not a gourmet cook.  The have a lot of really easy recipes that anybody can make.  And it is free.
