I am seeing Sweeney tonight so I will not be seeing Psycho with Anthony and Jason (and possibly Jose). They will have to fend for themselves during the shower scene.

DR Ben, I can't wait to hear what you think of Sweeny Todd. As you know I really liked it.

Hmm recent movies, I loved Paperclips and it should be required for kids to see. It is an incredible story of tolerance and the impact kids can have when they set their minds to it.  It was very emotional and moving.  I enjoyed Broken Flowers. Laughed a lot at 40 Year Old Virgin.
Hmmm, not sure what else I've seen lately.

Bon Kippur, everybody!  Here I am on the computer, but based on my theories of observance, they didn't have computers in the days of the Great Temple, when these rules were established, so how can being on the computer be forbidden?  :)

Being at the office past sundown last night was a little dicey even by my own observance quotient, but what can you do?

Wishing everyone to whom it applies a very healthy new year.

BK wrote in the notes:  "Then I proofed The Last Starfighter package, and spoke to our very own FJL about said proofing, to make sure we were on the same page.  Lucky for me I checked, becuase I was on page four and he was on page six.  But soon we were on the same page..."

I've never been on "Page Six" - I have been in Liz Smith's column once, but that was over twenty years ago.  :)

But that not being on the same page was quite literal, not figurative (I think!).  And what was on page 7 will presumably end up on page 6 or something like that.  I've never really had to proof a real publication before, and was so not used to page 4 being on the same sheet opposite page 9, and page 10 being on the same sheet opposite page 3.   But proper folding of the pages got it to look like a real booklet, and all worked out.

I will pray that working on a CD package doesn't constitute "working" for purposes of the holiday rules.  :)

You had mentioned the movie of "anything Goes" yesterday.  I haven't seen i in years, but i remember being so diappointed.  Doanld O'Connor is great, and proves he could do anything.  But the whole movie seems an enormous waste of talent.  What were they trying to do?  At least that is my memory of it.  Up tot hat point I'd heard  a lot about "Anything Goes" (the show) and expected something-- anything.

Were they tryint to recreate the success of  "white Christmas" or "No Business"?  There doesn't semtto be muchm ore of an excuse for some of the stupid things they did.

I wonder if I'd thnk it was as bad now.

The last really good movie that I saw in the theater was SALAAM NAMASTE, which I saw at the Loew's Theater in Times Square last  week. It was hilarious!

The last bad movie I saw at a theater was probably ROBOTS. It wasn't really bad, it just wasn't all that good...it really could have been so much funnier...oh, and BEWITCHED wasn't too hot either.

This weekend little Taylor and I will be seeing WALLACE AND GROMIT AND THE CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT!! I can't wait!

Good morning, Mike.

And Matt, too!

I wonder if Yom Kippur is generally a slow news day.

I think the last theater movie I saw was bewitched. I had a free ticket and it was worth every penny I paid for it.

Good morning!

Woke up with a scratchy throat and a stuffed up nose. I guess a slight cold has come upon me. For that reason, I didn't go out in the damp morning air for my walk, but I did do my workout, and the stuffiness and scratchy throat are much better.

Michael S - I had written her a letter about some comments she had made about Frank Rich and MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG, and she thought the letter was worth mentioning and paraphrasing in her column.   She even sent me the clipping with a lovely note.

Well, the last movie I saw at the theater was CORPSE BRIDE which was OK but for me not a memorable experience.

A couple or three movies that have knocked my socks off in recent months from DVD/cable were MULHOLLAND DR., THE STATION AGENT, and Garbo's CONQUEST.

And I've read some good things about Rob Marshall's MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA, but I'm not sure the subject matter would thrill me.

What an awful rainy day!  I wonder if it counts if I just break out the prayer book and pray at home.  Or else try to rustle up a "minyan" here in the building.

I really am looking forward to seeing last night's VERONICA MARS this afternoon. I've made a date for lunch with best friend John but that will be the first thing I watch when I return.

I just read that actor Josh Holloway (Sawyer from LOST) and his wife were robbed at gunpoint last night when a robber broke into their home in Hawaii and took money, credit cards, and his Mercedes.

Now, I'm assuming that they keep their place locked and have a secutiry system, but isn't it scary to think how vulnerable we are to this kind of attack, even if you take precautions.

Ooooh, Jose...your BFF just told me the most HILARIOUS story. She knows a kid who's a swing in IN MY LIFE the kid sent her an email announcing he was in the show. Now she says she's bitter because she "taught him everything he knows about musical theatre."

Good Morning!

Hmm... Well, when I looked at my clock radio I thought it was going to say "9:00".  Instead it said, "11:00".

Hmm...

I don't think I had any early morning appointments today.  And if I did...  Well, my cell phone has been quiet, so that's a bit of a reassurance.

But I have to say, I slept rather well last night.  Must have been the panna cotta!

ONE IN A MINYAN - The Yom Kippur musical.

The opening number : "Shofar, sho good."

Don't mind me - I'm just procrastinating.

Topic of the Day...

The only recent movies that I have seen recently would be:

"The 40-Year Old Virgin" - A good laugh.
"The Exorcism of Emily Rose" - I think I'm finally over being creeped out by this movie.
"Tim Burton's Corpse Bride" - ...Eh..
"The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio" - A surprisingly funny, sweet and enjoyable movie.

I think that's about it for the recent crop of movies.  And, actually, I usually only see about four movies a year in a movie theatre, so...  Guess I've broken my personal record.

Did you read the book?  I've always had a more than slight fascination with Japanese culture, and I'm looking forward to how that culture, that set of social mores, is going to be represented on the screen.  (For better or worse.)
