I've got THE STRANGE LOVES OF MARTHA IVERS on DVD, too, but the copy I have has been sitting on the shelf for a couple of years waiting to be chosen for viewing. I have seen it before, so it won't be my first time once I finally put it in the player for a spin, but it's a good idea for viewing, bk. Thanks.

I see that EXTRAS comes on again tonight at 8:30, the same time as HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, so I'll record it while watching MOTHER, and then watch it at 9 waiting for the best comedy of the night, OUT OF PRACTICE, to come on at 9:30.

My worst boss I believe I've talked about before.

During my 30 years in teaching, I had only three principals, and the last one (for my last five years of teaching) was by far the worst. He was a spineless boss who'd make stupid decisions and even when faced with their not working, would not retract them and we'd be stuck and miserable with some untenable ideas that made life much more difficult at school.

He was also the boss who wouldn't confront personnel who were doing wrong but rather would call EVERYONE into a faculty meeting and criticize the entire faculty for the misdeeds of a few. Completely destroyed morale, I can tell you! It made leaving a GIANT relief when I finally retired.

I have ROME and LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT to watch and clear off the DVR this afternoon.

And, of course, SIDEWAYS, which was recorded over the weekend and has yet to be seen.

I've just had a strange realization.  The four worst bosses I've had...were all gay!

And here I am, very out-of-the-closet, have been for decades.

Go figure.

I'll try to post more later.

It must be the full moon.

Did you SEE that moon last night?  It was glorious here... the skies were finally clear and cloudless and there it was, a beautiful large white sphere hanging in the sky.

Mornin'...

I don't want to be at work today. I had to take some ibuprofen last night for my headache and, surprisingly, it didn't upset my stomach. Until now. And my cheeks are still flushed. I don't want to be here.

I've had my fill of bad bosses. One of them was murdered. No, really - she was. Her husband, who was an even nastier SOB than she was - hired someone to kill her. Quite scandalous for Paducah, KY.

I hesitate to speak ill of my current employers. Wait, no I don't! Seriously - they're nice people outside of the office. IN the office, however, is a whole other matter. This is an office run by entertainment lawyers and washed-up, bitter actors - a recipe for a "happy" work environment if I ever heard one. My immediate supervisor is moodier than I am, if you can imagine, and seems to have some particular bone to pick with me, though I don't know what  it is or why. He's never called us "f**king retards." He just likes to make us FEEL like f**king retards and tends to condescend to us as if we're 12 year olds. My biggest beef with him is that he never takes any responsibility and rarely backs any of us up when there's a problem. He never wants to speak to the angry customers. He doesn't want to be bothered with complicated issues and CAN'T be bothered with the simple ones. He tells us he wants us to make our own decisions, but wants to be asked before anything can be done. Basically, he's a bundle of contradictions and it drives me batty.

I must go and clean myself up a bit. I am going to lunch with best friend John and must now shower and shave for the day ahead.

bk-

Glad you enjoyed THE ESCAPE ARTIST. It is somewhat of a heartbreaking movie for me, because it has the potential to be one of the all-time greats. But something happened along the way, the tampering and such you mention, and it doesn't really connect the dots. But such a great atmosphere and great moments and performances, it really haunts the mind.

AND, you get another of the rare glimpses of Gabriel Dell as an adult actor, and see just how criminally underutilized a talent he was.

Worst boss: a genuinely evil and corrupt "literary agent" I toiled for in New Jersey. She would take money from the blind. Literally! She actually did!

Me and m'Lady Moon go a long way back.

Dan's Song

Observe his flame,
That placid dame,
The moon's Celestial Highness;
There's not a trace
Upon her face
Of diffidence or shyness:
She borrows light
That, thro' the night,
Mankind may all acclaim her!
And, truth to tell,
She lights up well;
So I, for one, don't blame her.
Ah, pray make no mistake,
We are not shy;
We're very wide awake,
The moon and I!
Ah, pray make no mistake,
We are not shy;
We're very wide awake,
The moon and I!

I got a couple of Amazon packages today in the mail! Yes, I am a happy camper!

(Guess my regular postman is back on the job because last week, the mail never came before 4 p.m. and often even later than that!)

Talk about brain cell reduction! I just realized that I HAVE a copy of THE QUEEN OF SPADES and didn't even realize it!

I went to Amazon to price the DVD, and I saw that it's contained on a double feature disc with DEAD OF NIGHT, that fabulous British chiller which I knew I had. I go to the shelf, and lo and behold, there it is! DEAD OF NIGHT/THE QUEEN OF SPADES in the same DVD package!

I know what I'll be watching at some point today! SIDEWAYS will just have to wait for another day!

When I worked retail I had my share of horrible bosses, let me tell you.

Thankfully, that is not the case with my current job...my boss Rhonda is swell...even if she did forget to bring me my Monday morning coffee (she accidently left it on her kitchen counter)! I let her off the hook this one time.

I'm up, I'm up.  Who wouldn't be up with all this thundering that's going on.  Thunder is fairly rare in the City of Studio.  It rained last night, and is drizzling this morning.  But I see the sun trying to break through, so who knows what will happen.  Only the Shadow.

Re The Escape Artist, I have vague memories that it didn't preview well or something - something happened, and it sat for quite a while.  At one point in the commentary, they say that One From the Heart was shot AFTER The Escape Artist, so considering The Escape Artist didn't escape until 1982 (or maybe even a bit later), then that means it sat on the shelf.  I'm going to listen to the rest of the commentary to see if they elaborate.
