As for the Topic of the Day...
I threw myself a 16th - or was it 17th? - Birthday party. I Letraset'd (remember Letraset?) invitations - even personalized them! -All the rubbing! I planned and cooked the menu. It was a veritable smorgasbord - pizza,
lumpia, various salads, cake, ice cream (a sundae bar, I believe), etc.! There was LOTS of food. I think about 20 people showed up. It was a truly swell event. What was sort of cool, was that some people had to leave a few hours in to attend another event, but then they came back afterwards - around 11:30pm. -It was summer, so we could stay up late. I think the last guest left around 3:00am.
I also remember catering an anniversary party for one of the community theatres in the DC area. I'm still not really sure how it ended up happening, but it did. I made wontons, an orzo salad, assembled deli platters, brownies, and a couple of other things. I believe about 125 people attended.
...And while in college, there were a few times when I would cater people's recital receptions. And sometimes I would also be the accompanist for those recitals! Talk about planning in advance! I usually prepared enough food for 100-150 people. In my small apartment kitchen. *And I would usually make more from catering the recital than accompanying it!
