The S.F. Chronicle TV booklet in each Sunday's paper has been my guide of choice the past 12 years.

However....yesterday, it was MUCH CHANGED...and they've gone to one weekly daytime listing (i.e. Monday -Friday morning and afternoon).

The type faces are different, the advertising has increased.

It's more difficult to use, naturally, and one cannot see individual program listings (like movie titles) on a daily basis.  One now has to wade through an alphabetical listing to see what the movies are.

The more I pay for stuff, the shoddier the service gets.

First Apartments:

My first apartment was in college a little a 3-room flat in a converted house on Aylesford Place about three short blocks from the campus and the Fine Arts Building where the Theatre was.  we have a living-room with a little gas heater, a kitchen with a bad roof, and a bedroom that got very cold in winter.  I slept on the couch in the living-room most nights.  The bathroom was in a hallway outside the apartment and we shared it with two other apartments.  I roomed with a friend from High School.  I inherited the apartment from another theatre arts student.  I've been back several times.  The house has been razed and a regulation apartment building put up in its place.

Many a good time was had there and it was the home of many a fine theatre department parties, most notably The Super Fantastic Original Corn-Eating Elimination Contest And Light Show Plus Selected Short Subjects.

I haven't read a single decent review of the new OKLAHOMA! set. Mine should be here in a day or two. How very, very disappointing. Thankfully, my laserdisc still plays just fine.
I've kept my non-16 x 9 dvd, which is fine; still, I'm looking forward to the 'scope presentation and the bonus features.
(Not getting rid of my original 5 STar Sound of Music, either, for the new issue doesn't repeat all of the special features on THAT disc)!

All the cool kids were conceived on Valentine's Day. Well, Skip and I were, at least. :D

Also, my DH Richard (Nov. 13) and, four years prior, his brother (Nov. 15).

Fame is fleeting....there are three people I don't recognize.  The girl in the lower left picture - the man in the glasses and the man directly below him.  Big stars all, I am sure.

I recognize Uncle Milty, Imogene Coca, Ed Sullivan, Arthur Godfrey, and Howdy Doody.  Is that Gertrude Berg above Howdy?

Who are the rest?

The Oklahoma Todd-AO transfer is indeed problematic.  It's just soft - verging on out of focus, when it should be razor sharp.  I gather this has something to do with the way the film is scanned for transfer.  The colors are actually accurate and better than the scope version.  The scope version is sharper (some say artificially done) but I don't like the color and I don't like the alternate takes.

With all the Todd-AO transfer problems, there is a depth to the image that is like you're almost there.  That's why the abnormalities are so annoying - if the transfer had been sharper and brighter, it would have been amazing.

The scope transfer is also too dark, at least from where I sit.

Yes...definitely Dennis James.  Familiar face, but name eluded me.

Kay Kyser...seems familiar.

Golly, I feel really dumb here, considering I date from that era:

Imogene Coca          Ed Sullivan          Arthur Godfrey

Herb Shriner?           Dave Garroway?      ???

Dorothy Collins?            ???                Howdy Doody
Doesn't look like her

It doesn't look anything like Dave Garroway to me; it really does look like a older Kay Kyser...especially the hairstyle, glasses, and nose.  He just looks a little fuller-faced than I remember him from the forties.  I have no memory of him being a big TV star, however.

Well, now that you've printed the earlier pic of Kay Kyser, I'm more confused.  It still looks like it could be him...just, as I said, fleshed out a bit.  The nose isn't as sharp, but the smile with the thin upper lip is very similar.  Hairstyle remains close.

Dennis James, yes.  Kay Kyser certainly a possibility there.

As you surmised, that's not My Fat Lady....er, I mean Dorothy Collins.  So that young lady and the gentleman to the right have eluded us.  I can't believe it!  Someone has to know!
