I agree with DR MattH's use of the term "live" for watching a show when it is actually on tv, rather than recording it.  It might not be technically correct, but it's a term that easily reflects what he meant.  And that is good enough for me.

It is an eccentric use of a word not at all "easily reflective" of the intent.

"Live TV" is an event that is aired as it happens.  The state of the viewer is always "live" and it is a redundancy to say you're watching a pre-recorded event "live."  It's also an abomination of the English language.

Watching something "live" in this context is applicable to every "watching" experience.  It's as silly as saying you're watching it "dead" or "comatose".

It snowed here today too for the first time.  I am sure it will melt right away.  And it isn't supposed to snow again.   But yuck, it's only November. I'm not ready for snow yet. :(

I was a bit confused with the use of “live” and wondered if I was missing something.   Once we get around to watching MEDIUM I would have told Keith it was filmed “live”.   ;D

"Confused" is an exact reaction to the misuse of the word "live" in this discussion!

Well we will have to agree to disagree.  Especially since many people here record their tv shows.  I think it was quite clear what he meant when he said he was watching the show "live" (since we all knew MEDIUM was not being aired as it happened).

Maybe clear to you.   ;)

But watching something "live" has always, in my lifetime, meant the event was "live."

One's own state of existence is never referred to in such conversation.

But Jennifer, I did think I had missed something.  I just record the shows & try to avoid the pre-show hype. ;D

.  It's as silly as saying you're watching it "dead" or "comatose".

When I was a kid and Dad was asleep in his recliner in front of the  (one and only) TV and we kids tried to change the channel he would suddenly arouse from his loud snoring laden slumber declaring "I was watchng that!"

apparently one CAN watch TV while comatose  :D

and I will say no more more about the matter except I knew EXACTLY what  MattH was saying  and that Ron is technically correct   :-* :-*

So everybody kiss and make up and let's talk about something more interesting now....

like ME!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

BTW MattH, when I was spending ALL of the most beautiful, warm,  sunny Saturday we are likely to see in all of November, cleaning out closets and drawers, doing laundry, cleaning bathrooms, vaccuming dusting, etc etc etc I kept thinking... MattH is on to something there with his daily cleaning schedule thing.... I bet he's not cooped up in the house all day today cleaning!

My DeepDiscountDVD 20% off order is on it's way now!

Can't even remember what I ordered...LORRETTA YOUNG SHOW season One, I believe, and some 1970s Turkish Spy Film double feature or something.

Yes...they further emphasized the idea that the event was LIVE.  That's exactly the way the network press releases emphasize the nature of the special programs.

It means -- ATTENTION:  THIS SHOW IS BEING PERFORMED LIVE.

As for clues...when a word is being misused, there is no adequate clue to explain it away.

Misused is simply misused.

Are you going to watch it live?

I watched "The Trouble With Harry" "live" over the weekend.  That and "Nicholas and Alexandra" and "Summertime" -- all "live," "live," "live."

And last night, I was so sleepy I couldn't stay up to watch "Medium" "live" -- so, I "filmed" it.

That's right.  I "filmed" last night's "Medium"...but oddly enough, when I watch it tonight, I'm going to watch it "live".

Hee! Hee!

Somebody STOP me.....!!!!

DangerMouse on DVD!!! Hoo and Ray! I'll have to look into it. I haven't seen an episode in years. How I wish the voice on that DVD was mine, but alas, I just put on the get up and rode in parades and opened malls, just like Ashlee Simpson. Who would have thought we had so much in common.

DeepDiscountDVD.com is offering both seasons for $17.97. I may have to spring for them, too...I grew up on Danger Mouse when I was in England.

BTW Jason, you didn't answer my Three Kings costuming question... I've been awake all night worrying about it!!!!!

And if she sings O Christmas Tree, should she be festooned with colored  lights or lit candles?

If she sings O Tannebaum  does she HAVE to wear leidenhosen?

We turn to you oh great GURU of the MTI to tell us !
