Had three enjoyable video experiences tonight.
First up was THE LADY IN THE LAKE which was on the DVR and I had forgotten about. This is the Phillip Marlowe mystery with Robert Montgomery playing Marlowe and also directing the film. For about 85% of the running time, we see everything from a first person point of view and only occasionally glimpse him in mirrors or other glass. The other characters talk directly to the camera.
I wouldn't want to see many movies like this, but for a one-shot deal, it's pretty interesting, and the mystery is a typical Chandler jumble. Everything gets sorted out at the end satisfactorily.
I have to say that I've seen this movie two or three times in my life (not in a long time), and I thought I knew the identity of the murderer so I watched everything carefully thinking I knew who the guilty party was going to turn out to be. Turns out I had remembered incorrectly and had a wonderful time being surprised when the identity of the actual murderer was revealed.
I dubbed this onto a DVD to watch and enjoy again.
