For some reason, Gollum is on my mind this morning.

And then tonight is two hours of LOST: a catch-up show for the first half of the season followed by a new episode at 9.

INVASION also returns tonight and there are new episodes of other HHW favorites, too, like CRIMINAL MINDS, LAW & ORDER, and CSI: NY.

To any and all chefs/cooks out there, you simply must try roasting your next turkey a la baster.

Where would one find an alabaster turkey?

Well, it's also a dark, dank, misty day...reminds me of the cave where Bilbo found the ring.

I've been very bad the past 24 hours...I've ordered/pre-ordered far more CDs/DVDs than I'll ever have time to watch.

Yet, some of them will BE watched while others languish in a pile.

One of my pre-orders is the OBC for "The Color Purple."  And while I was there (at Amazon.com...ordering this album), I noted that the 2-CD film score has been remastered and is once again commercially available after 10 years.

I also watched "Law and Order: SVU"...and I became extremely agitated/angry at the stereotypical scene with someone attempting to rob a bank...shouting at a mother to keep her infant quiet, waving a sub-machine gun around and being absolutely oblivious to the obvious and rational.

I was yelling at my TV set, I'm afraid.

On a brighter note, I had a wonderful visit with the 2-CD "Sweeney Todd" last night.

It stirred my soul once again.

When my 5:30 a.m. alarm went off today, I got up.

Usually, I turn it off and wait for the 6:30 a.m. alarm to go off.

I made some oatmeal and did a bit of online surfing.

It was a leisurely morning.  I was at work at 7:30 a.m.

It's rather nice to get here early...to avoid the traffic...to get a good parking space in the parking garage down the street...and to be the only one in line when ordering a cup of coffee.

Well, to be honest, the kid waving around the gun was a coke-head and probably not thinking rationally. He certainly was irrational. I actually thought the father was the idiot in that scenario. He could have had his son brought down with a shot to the leg without endangering the lives of everyone else in the bank (since the kid was obviously out of his head), but selfishly he didn't want his son harmed no matter who else might be. I'm not a parent, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about, but in a situation like this, wouldn't the best thing for all people be to merely injure the dangerous one and not risk everyone else's lives?

Yes, I see that the second season of SUPERMAN and the third season of MARY TYLER MOORE are coming out next week. Both will be purchased near the end of the week.

(LOIS AND CLARK season 2 is also coming out, but since I got season 1 for $18 on sale at Target some months after it premiered, the $41 that Amazon wanted for Season 2 was too rich for my blood. I'll wait and hope Target puts this one on sale eventually, too.)

[sigh] Out of the frying pan into the fire. I no sooner settle one Ebay problem (7 weeks to get the item purchased, but it DID finally get shipped and arrived two days after shipping) than I believe I may have another one on my hands. I bought something (Buy It Now) on Saturday and have heard nothing from the seller. Now, granted, that's not much time, and it's less than $10, but I guess I can't contact the seller until at least a week has passed.

DRJOSE....hmmm Pernell (we are on a first name basis now, you know) did some of "the classics" at Arena Stage as his bio says, other shows mentioned by name besides MENAGERIE are TWELFTH NIGHT, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, and THE TAMING OF THE SHREW.    He won a Drama Critic's Award in 1955, so those shows were probably prior to that year.

Matt H., I think I remember you asking a question about the restaurant, Sam's a while back and I don't think anyone answered you.

I bring it up because I just got an e-mail about the impending departure of Barrymore's.

Yes, Sam's will be gone as well. Everything west of the Imperial Theatre (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is there now) on both 45th and 46th Streets will be demolished. The host at Barrymore's who sent out an e-mail about his establishment said the work won't begin for a long time but they (Barrymore's) are closing up shop because the interim landlord wants a large rent increase and a deposit until the work begins. Sam's may have a longer lease than Barrymore's so they may be around for a while but Barrymore's will be closing on January 29th.

Another restaurant on 46th Street, JR's, has already closed. Frankie and Johnnie's Steakhouse will close as well as all the storefronts on Eighth Avenue (a deli, tourist trap souvenir stores, etc.). We won't see the new building (a Disney Theatre and hotel complex) for probably 5 years or more but the fallout is happening now.

Why would you have to wait one week?  I normally contact the seller immediately after an auction ends if I have to rely upon him to provide me with information regarding payment.

Some sellers just sit there waiting on the buyer to make contact....everyone is different.

Thank you, DR Ben. I was the one who asked about Sam's, and I appreciate your remembering and answering my question.

I will really miss it, too. On each trip to NYC, this was always our first stop after checking into the hotel to get a bite of lunch before heading out shopping on our first day in the city.

I also met Nathan Lane at Sam's the year he was getting ready to open in FORUM. He was being interviewed by Michael Buckley when we were there for lunch, and I said hello.

I got my Roger Corman Puerto Rico Trilogy - as it is called on the DVD case.  Very excited to see THE LAST WOMAN ON EARTH in color!  And to hear Betsy Jones-Moreland on the commentary.

Maybe yours will come today as well, DRMBARNUM.

Good word of mouth does MORE for a play or movie than almost any amount of advertising.  People want to see what their friends saw - and they want to see something they can tell their friends about!!!

Congrats on the great WOM for DECEIT!!!

And I imagine the bikini doesn't hurt!
