Saddest Zoo sights:  Penguins and Polar Bears in sub tropical environments!

I don't care for the Bear pits of Berne either! (I think the Bears don't spend much time there though).

I also don't like Bears on chains but the songs about them are great - Mamas & Papas and Nilsson. (Alan Price's version of "Simon Smith"  is wonderful). Even Babs managed to give a mention to a Dancing Bear.

I'm pretty certain I am. The other changes that are happening are going on in middle and upper management. They had to let one of us go (Carrot Stick Girl) in order to make space for someone else to move down to her spot while someone else is hired in to take over a management position. Confusing? Contrived? You betcha! We had a staff meeting this morning about it. Never has there been a more uncomfortable meeting since I've been here...

That's suprising... most places don't demote" people , they just let them go and bring in a replacement

It is very awkward when things like this start going on in the workplace... I was in the aerospace industry (yours truly used to be "planner" in the construction of radar systems for the B1B bombers and the like....) back in the 1980's when that industry took a nosedive.... every Friday morning you would sit at your desk...waiting for the shadow of layoff to pass by or touch your shoulder... the relief when you weren't called, followed by guilt at that relief when you watched that nice father of four with the stay at home wife leave......

I surviced 18 months of those Fridays... but the day came when they cut the firm from 9,000 to 1,500 (on one day!!)

its weird when you go to the unemployment office and you know everyone there!

Vixmom, now that you've got High Speed you can listen to radio shows at home. You can finally hear Donald and me (when I'm on)

Not until Vixdad decrees that we may download RealPlayer... (he being the computer professional is the Komputer King and no programs may be downloaded without his royal decree) so far I have not gained permission as he has some issues with how Realplayer interacts with some other program (I don't know which one) we have.

The first thing I asked actually as soon as the IO was installed was "Can I listen to the radio Program?" when he saw we needed Real Player he said "No"

Well he is the Komputer King and I have my own little areas I am Queen over wher I brook no interference.... so please keep me on your CD list!

Here's another update, this one is personal.

Some of you may remember that I had a callback for the second reading of THE MAN IN THE IRON MASK - the show I workshopped back in the spring. They wanted to see me for a supporting role, and the principles were all going to be played by Broadway types. Anywho, the composer and lyricist - both very sweet guys - kept on telling me how much they love me, yadda yadda yadda and then I never heard back from them. The Greek asked me the other day if I'd heard from them yet, because he got a call saying he was going to be in the ensemble. I still hadn't heard anything.

Long story short (too late): They aren't using me this time. There isn't enough room in the ensemble for me. Enough room?? What, is my salary too high? I know $0 is a hefty salary, but I will not come down on my asking price.

I sent them an email asking what the deal was and the lyricist wrote back to let me know I won't be doing the second workshop/reading. He seemed very apologetic and horribly embarrassed to be turning me down. I tried to assure him that I'm not taking it personally, though I sort of am. I'm pretty positive they brought in at least three new guys and passed on me. Perhaps they're all insanely talented - I don't know - but one can't help but feel a little bit hurt. So much for loyalty, right? I know, I know..."it's for the good of the show." "It's a purely business-based decision." "You're too good to be in the ensemble." (Well, maybe I just added that one in for my own ego). Still...if I can't get them to re-hire me for free, how in the world can I expect someone to hire me for pay???

Pincipal/principle ! Is there a difference in the USA. It's a teacher thing Jason!!

Even that you were in a work shop is amazing to those of us without theatrical talent at all. (I know there is an ambiguity there but it's too early here to rephrase that). Keep going for and living that dream.

I think you would be justified in doubling your asked for salary!

I'm not really as upset as I thought I'd be. I won't lie - I'm very jealous that they'll get to have all the fun without me - but I'm not as devastated as I probably came off in my previous post.

Actors start to get used to rejection - well, as used to it as you CAN get - or they kill themselves or quit the business. I'm sure they do other things, too, but those are the two most logical courses of action. ;-) It's been a while since I've auditioned, so it's been a while since I've been rejected for a gig. I just had to get out the frustration so I can move on to the next thing. It's just another audition as far as I'm concerned. The thing that bothers me is that I actually allowed myself to think that this was a "sure thing" because they sort of led me to believe that this was a "sure thing." Lesson learned here? There is no such thing as a "sure thing" until a contract is signed.

DR JMK,

Don't forget that CSI comes on tonight. THough much of it is dark, nighttime photography, it's still a very breathtaking show to watch in HD, particularly the germ's eye views of the body of a victim. Aerial shots of Las Vegas are also very gasp-inducing.

Well all I can say Jason is that those people are obviously shortsighted, ignorant and have a self destructive wish to fail.

I have no other explanation for casting aside a man of your charms and ability.

And I think you should triple your salary demands!!

SUPERNATURAL had a creepy episode about a faith healer who used a "reaper" to take a life in order to heal the sick. Intriguing premise and a couple of good gasps in the hour.

I got around to last night's LAW & ORDER today, too. Not one of their most debatable cases. Often, the situations are such that what is legal seems SO unfair. Not so in last night's episode, especially once all the information came out.

DR Jennifer, I checked the VERONICA MARS listing for Saturday (a rerun of Wednesday's episode), and unless that wasn't the episode that aired then, it is a repeat.

When you audition for shows, there is a certain amount of rejection that every actor experiences. I'd be lying if I said it didn't hurt not to get cast even when you know they chose someone better suited to the part.

But when you know there are reasons other than talent at work, that's when it really hurts and also makes you angry.

In other words, I'm sorry, DR Jason, about your news.

I have not caught up on all the posts, but did anybody see SKATING WITH CELEBRATIES? It's basically DANCING WITH THE STARS but on ice.  I definitely like the latter better, but it was quite interesting. And i was quite impressed with the skating.

Although one couple that I thought was very good (Lloyd Eisler was the pro skater) got very bad marks.  The woman was good. ANd Lloyd is an amazing pairs skater (very tall and Canadian pairs champs for years). He knows exactly how to be a pairs skater, and do the lifts, and I thought the judges were very hard on them.  Some of the other pairs had women bigger than the men and that does not work for pairs skating! :)

DR Jennifer, according to the report of last night's ratings at Zap2It, VERONICA MARS was a repeat last night.

CELEBRITIES ON ICE (or whatever its name is) actually beat LOST's rating for the first half hour! Never say that AMERICAN IDOL can't bring a certain amount of ratings to shows that follow. I'll be curious to see how BONES rates next week following IDOL.

The ICE show moves to Monday next week, its regular time.

Reminder (Thanks Jason):
Crocodile Hunter Steve is good in that he has brought an awareness about Australian fauna to the world - but he is cashing in on an image that is in no way "real Australian" - accent nor clothing!  He is considered by many of the adult population here to be an idiot!

I of course realise that all Americans are cowboys or gangsters. lol
