Jennifer - Just realized none of us ever actually told you what an Almond Joy is.  It's coconut and almonds covered in milk chocolate.  Yummilicious.  It's counterpart candy is Mounds, just coconut covered in dark chocolate.

It is just a big long Mounds Bar, with a couple of nuts attached.

I've been called worse.

Dear Reader MBarnum -- I use to love Flicks too, and I always bought them when I went to the movies.  Unfortunately for me, that was back in the 50s and 60s, not the 70s.

Someone ought to write a play called:

"Fagin, Fagout" -- a musical comedy in three acts about the coming-out process!

And who knows, maybe BRAVO would buy off on the concept of doing a show called:

"Near Queer" -- Stories from straight men and women about isolated out-of-closet experiences.

DR Ann:  Are you referring to a fiber optic Christmas tree?

Almond Joys -- they are like Mounds bars except they are made with sweet milk chocolate (rather than the bittersweet dark) and there are two almonds atop each bar (in a two-bar package).  Bite-sized AJs have only one almond.

DR MattH:  I LOVE Zero bars.  I've never seen them out here in California...but I always get some when I'm back in South Carolina!!!

5th Avenue bars used to be scarce out here, too, but I see them quite often now.

Jennifer - We've had Peanut Butter M&M's for a few years now, so that's certainly not a regional testing thing.  I've heard of the inside-out Reese's cups... may have to find some and give 'em a try.

Years!?!  <gasp>.

I have noticed all sorts of bizarre new candy while waiting in the line at the pharmacy. But I have never seen those mentioned above. Maybe I am just not seeing it (or maybe we don't get it here - if DR Emily wasn't afraid of peanuts she could help me! :))  l

Dear Reader Charles Pogue:  My best wishes to your dear wife.  What a shocking experience for her, but how grateful you both must be that she was running late.

The next time you are in contact with Denny Miller, please tell him, that as a longtime and devoted fan, I send him my very best.  Probably not such a good idea to tell him that I spent my youth lusting after him.

I WAS logged onto this site, but I surfing others. I read somewhere that Diane Keaton just won the National Board of Review's Best Actress Award for SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE. I was trying to find out the other winners.

I have NOT seen a Mounds bar either.

I think I only know them by the song, "almond joys have nuts, mounds don't!".

Could they not sell these in Canada?

I love chocolate.I know all things chocolate. This is an embarrassment!

I have no idea what a Mounds Bar is - although I think I may have *seen* an Almond Joy.  I don't know... when I eat chocolate I stick to my traditional favorite bars and ignore the never ending supply of new ones...

Here are some chocolates we can lord over you with:

1) Coffee Crisps
2) Cherry Blosoms (although they have peanuts so I run away at the sight of them)
3) Laura Secord (trust Canuckistan to have its most famous sweet shop chain named after an American woman who ratted on the 1812 invasion plans of British North America by the Yanks)

There are others... :D

Yes, Jennifer, it is time someone told you the unvarnished truth:

America is withholding selected forms of chocolate from your country as retaliation for you guys having socialized medicine!

There, I have said it, and now I feel better.

DR Emily: Almond Joys and Mounds are not new. That much I know.

Are you saying Americans don't know Coffee Crisp and Cherry blossoms? I know that Laura Secord is a Canadian chain.

My favorite is Crunchie. But I love most everything.

I did recently discover peanut butter O'Henry which was quite delightful.

Thanks, DR Jed. I did manage to find them. The National Board of Review is the always first film organization to name its winners. I have managed to miss every one of those films though MYSTIC RIVER is still playing near me. SAMURAI and GOTTA GIVE haven't opened yet, of course. Maybe some of the others haven't either.

For anyone who is interested, here's a link to that story about fine dining in Germany.  A follow-up story can be located here.

Personally, I've always preferred a Mounds.

"Sometimes you feel like a nut,
Sometimes you don't.
Almond Joy's got nuts,
Mounds don't.
(Because) Sometimes you feel like a nut,
Sometimes you don't!"

LOL, TCB!

Jed--I want pictures too!  Hooray for men in tights!

Good vibes to Julianne Pogue!  I'm so sorry to hear about the tragedy, and how close to it she was.

I completely forgot to mention Kit Kats.  I do love me some Kit Kat bars.

Hmmmm....here's a question...do you guys say Reeses Pieces or Reesees Piecees?

Maya - Definitely a schwa for the second syllable, not a long "e."  Of course, here in the NW, we pronounce Reese's the same as marry, merry, and Mary. :D

I'm not at work today.  A touring production of Kiss Me Kate has come to the Washington Center and this morning I worked the load-in (with the wardrobe people--steaming and ironing the costumes is much preferred to having to unload the sets).  We're all on a break now and the call for the show is at 5:30.  The performance starts at 7:30, goes for 2 hours and 45 minutes and the load-out will be after that.  I don't know how long that will take.  I'm not going in to work tomorrow so that I can sleep!  Then I'm taking Friday off too.  Thanksgiving (last week) was a four day weekend and after working only two days after that, I have a five day weekend!

Ok, here's my questions for the day--I kinda asked this the other day but it wasn't on the official ask a quesiton day.

What websites do you find useful or a favorites besides HHW?  I don't think I have to mention BBW & Weatherbug but here is another favorite.

Here are just a few websites that I use:

www.castalbumdb.com
www.playbill.com
www.tmtfanclub.com
www.tvguide.com

Frozen U-No bars.  Used to love Flicks, and of course Benjamin Kritzer loved Chocolate Babies.

Re Something's Gotta Give - I'm so very bored of Hollywood's bankrupt propensity for using song titles as movie titles - I mean are these people just not able to come up with a title that MEANS something to the film at hand, and is not just some classic pop song they'll use over the titles?
