Good morning!

We've got partly cloudy skies here now, but the sun is shining and overall it's pretty lovely. Should be in the low 70s today. Looking forward to a walk later.

I'm not really sure if it was Manidsa's size or overt religiosity or two mediocre weeks that did her in. Sad to say, all of those things probably played a part. I much prefer hearing her sing to Paris whose singing voice actually sounds older top me than Mandisa's.

Seeing Taylor in what obviously was the top group reaffirms those busy signals I've heard for him on the lines here for the past three weeks. And tellingly, no busy signals for Paris the week she was in the bottom three. She's had busy signals along with Taylor for two weeks prior to this week.

I've always thought RASHOMON is the greatest ever Japanese movie even more than SEVEN SAMAURI, but as I have both on Criterion DVDs, I probably need to revisit both to do a more recent comparison. SAMAURI is just SO long.

I much prefer CHinese and Thai cuisine to Japanese, but I've had some chicken dishes that were tasty. Can't stand sushi.

All caught up...

I think.

And I've already moved my car back to north side of the street too!

*And next week, due to the religious holidays, I will only have to move my car once! :)  Ah, the simple joys in life.

Having lunch with friends today, so I probably won't get back to BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN until this evening. This afternoon, I'll want to watch VERONICA MARS and LAW & ORDER so they can be cleared off the DVR.

I recorded Betty Grable's THE SHOCKING MISS PILGRIM off cable yesterday (surprisingly not off the Fox Movie Channel but off one of the Showtime channels.) Haven't seen it in a long time, but now probably won't be getting to it until the weekend.

And now for some random musings and comments from the past couple of days...

The macaroni and cheese side dish at Joe Allen is really, really good.

*I may have mentioned that already, but it probably doesn't hurt to repeat it.

I'm up, I'm up.

Ben, are they still doing that really long and pretty unfunny Agnes DeMille ballet?  That was the worst thing in the show when I saw it - went on for ten minutes or so, and it was really pointless.

I got to sleep by eleven-thirty and slept straight through to seven-thirty, so I'm feeling better today.

"American Idol"....

Guess I need to check out the DVR here at the apartment sometime today.

*I don't mind reading about who got sent home - not really a spoiler for me - but I do like to go back and see and hear the performances.

As for Times Square are hotels...

The Muse - which is a favorite of a couple of DRs - is now part of the Kimpton Group of Hotels.  -They're the company that run a couple of boutique hotels throughout the country, including the Hotel Monaco's in Chicago and Washington, DC.  Well... I believe they are still running a special on internet bookings to "celebrate" their newly acquired status.  Worth checking out.

*I like the goldfish in the hotel rooms at the Monaco.  :)

Did anyone else watch NCIS the other night?  I did not care for the solution at all.  And haven't we gone beyond equating gayness to masculinity?  Oh well, I guess every show is allowed an off week.

And, yes, it did snow yesterday...  And I swear I did not see anything about any snowfall when I left the apartment yesterday morning... It was even in the mid-40s when I headed out around 9:30.  However, about an our later... WOW!  At least I had my umbrella and Lestat cap with me.

...And the snow looked great from Smash Studios on the 18th floor of the Garment Worker's Union building!  That's where the auditions I played yesterday morning were held.

They were doing final callbacks for a new venture that David Foster is producing.  Four singers - women - singing two songs.  Two rock/pop songs.  Initially, I felt a little out of my element, but the guys running the venture and coaching the singers really knew how to make it all work for everyone - especially for me.  The main coach made me feel comfortable, and knew exactly what kind of "help" to give me to help me find the right groove - which turned out to be some "beat boxing" in order to give me some rhythmic back-up.  -Which also helped out the singers since the songs were very rhythmic based.

I ended up having a wonderful time, and the four young women who were brought in were amazing singers with some very good credits - Broadway and otherwise.  *And having Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" belted just a few feet away from me was quite thrilling.

Jose, what night does LESTAT open?

I still can't quite get past the concept of combining INTEVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE and THE VAMPIRE LESTAT into one story.  They are told from two opposite points of view.

One of the reasons I greatly enjoyed THE EVIDENCE last week was that a boxer who ended up dead also turned out to be gay (and his death didn't have anything to do with his sexuality). In probably the most macho of sports, here was a man who was "all man" but who also had a partner of many years whom he shared a home with.

DR TCB, were you complaining that the gay person in question wasn't masculine or was overly masculine or what? I didn't quite understand what you were objecting to.

Jose, what night does LESTAT open?

We open Tuesday, April 25.

:)

*It's a really crazy opening week schedule.  We have our final preview on Monday - Opening on Tuesday night - early curtain at 6:30.  Then shows Wednesday and Thursday night.  Then two(!) shows on Friday, and two more on Saturday.  However, we're off that Sunday and Monday.  Sort of...

That Monday is the day we're supposed to go into the studio to record the cast album.

:)

*I know I cried a little bit - tears of joy - when I first opened the Playbill... God knows what I'll be like when I see my name in the liner notes.

It's a lot of story to cover.  However, what they are covering is Lestat's story.  So, if you take the books chronologically - instead of in the order they were published - then the storyline makes sense.  Almost.

OOHH!!!!

And our Opening Party will be held at the Time-Warner Center at Columbus Circle!  I am sooooo excited!

*And I also need to start scouting out my opening night outfit.  Alas, I wish I was another inch smaller/thinner by now, but I'm still in need of a nice outfit that fits properly right now, so that's not a bad thing at all.

DR TCB, were you complaining that the gay person in question wasn't masculine or was overly masculine or what? I didn't quite understand what you were objecting to.

The character is question (one of the regulars) was being harassed because he wasn't as masculine as others thought he should be, therefore, he must be gay.  In order to prove his heterosexuality, he was doing things like lowering his voice when he questioned suspects and going a day without shaving to show his manly qualities.  I don't know, it just seemed so stupid.  Some of the most hetero sexual men I know, are in some ways the most effeminate; because they have no fear of showing their softer (i.e. feminine) side.

Am I making any sense?

Except the INTERVIEW portion of the story (The second act?) paints Lestat as anything but a hero.  Louis is really the hero of that part of the chronicles.  Lestat is indeed very sexy, but he is hardly likeable in INTERVIEW. Naturally, the VAMPIRE LESTAT, since it is told by Lestat, it therefore makes him a much more likeable character.  Have they changed the  focus then, from Louis to Lestat?

I apologize.  I am on heavy-duty Vicodin today, so I am probably not making a lot of sense.  I should probably just go back to bed.
